Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Working for Amazon Sucks

Watch out for Amazon folks - I've had numerous friends ditch Target prior to the massive layoffs and HATE their jobs...shit pay for a lot of hours...and they try to entice you with a wicked bonus and stock options but the catch is that those unlock over 4 years...the average turnover rate at Amazon is like 18 months...

Amazon is where my husband went after he was tired of Target politics. He said it was rough at first but he is enjoying his job now. He loves his compensation and feels he is finally paid what he is worth. We will have our house paid off after he collects his stock options which is fantastic. He said detoxing from Target gave him clarity. He works to live now rather than living to work which is what Target required.

Amazing! Bashing people who preferred work/life balance. Just because they prefer to work 8-4 doesn't mean that are not productive. Sometimes, they are more productive than those who put in 12 hours day. Work/life balance is not about working less hours. It's more about self managing your hours so that you don't have to choose work exclusively over life!

What, you're shocked to actually have to do a job, instead of having coffees all day? Welcome to the world...

But if you love what you are doing and are passionate about the company you work for, you don't keep score. So many of you view the company you work for as an adversary. You job is your life, whether you choose to accept it or not. Work/life balance is just code for employees who really aren't vested in the success of the company they work for. If you want an 8-4 punch clock lifestyle, go work in a factory.

Jeff Bezos himself said "people who want work/life balance are people that don't like their job very much". So yeah, expectation is complete dedication to Amazon in sacrifice of family and other personal needs for the best interest of company. They will work you to death over there and thus the extremely high turnover. Plus, cost of living in Seattle is amongst the hishest in the country. Unless you are only a few years out of undergrad, the base pay will not be competitive or less than Target and they definitely try to lure you with signing bonus and stock and count be hard to realize with the burnout they will induce.

No, you do not get money. In case of layoffs, some companies will give you 50 percent of unvested stock, some (very rarely) will give you all of it. If it is performance based termination, you always lose all of it. To survive 4 years of 60 hour weeks at Amazon you need to have balls made of brass. It is gruesome overthere, it crushes family life completely.

What if they sack you before you reach 4 years? Do you get to keep the 300 shares? If not, that's a scam.

yup just had friend hired at Amazon, given 300 shares of stocks, must wait 4 years to cash out 150K (value of stock). Sucks to have to wait 4 years. I rather jump from job to job and have no job security like at Target.
