Yes, both Pearson and the paper industry has been going through a period of tremendous challenge. And yes, the challenges continue today. For example, even though there have been mill closures and job losses, there are still more than 30,000 paper industry jobs in Wisconsin.
One consequence of the mill closures and job reductions has been that the industry has been left with an aging work force. The first to lose their jobs have been the first hired, so many facilities have an average employee age in the 50s. And they will begin retiring in droves over the next few years... So, there is tomorrow after all...
