Does anyone actually receive a “Excellent Performance” rating?

I received a meaningful rating even though in each area the description met an extraordinary rating. There was a lot of cut and paste from my self review my boss did for the final comments. When asked what I could do in 2025 to receive an extraordinary rating the quote was “I don’t give the top rating”. I know for a fact, they are told to rate on a curve no matter if their employees should receive a top notch rating.
"Needs Improvement" is the only rating to be mad about. Those employees should be extremely worried about their future at the bank. Once you receive the "Needs Improvement" rating, it's difficult if not impossible to move to another team. Your manager doesn't want you on their team.
The story across the organization is they've severely cut the number of Extraordinary ratings so managers are left with very few, if any, to hand out. I've heard the same refrain from a number of coworkers regarding being consistently extraordinary in the past and being meaningful this year and last.
I have for the past 7 years.
This year I exceeded all goals, but received a meaningful.
A new managing director gave me the rating as well, since the other was let go in October.
What a crock
I have for the last 7 years straight and got laid off in October. So don't worry, it doesn't matter because lazy management doesn't take it under consideration when making the decision on who to cut. Meanwhile, my coworkers have stayed while having need improvement reviews. It just doesn't matter. It would if the company hired competent managers. But we all know they don't. Good luck!
I got "Needs Improvement" and I have no idea HOW.

I was $13 million over my goal for this year and was the top performer in my channel and I got meaningful. That's after 7 years of extraordinary performance review ratings.
What they don’t get is that when you don’t value high performers… they leave.
I’m def looking to 💯 move to another company in the next year or two.

What is exactly meaningful? How can that even be qualified objectively? The word itself screams of open interpretation based on the beholder.
I believe groups get quotas each year they have to meet, from my experience 90% of employees are meaningful, and 5% each fall into Extraordinary/Needs Improvement dependent on the #'s needed each year.
From a merit increase, that all sits with your manager and their managing committee, so even if you 'only' get Meaningful, hopefully your manager can advocate for you to receive a slightly higher merit increase (not much discretion can be used there), or a larger bonus than your peers.
I also got just “meaningful” after going above and beyond and navigating so much organizational change and having a positive attitude and producing a lot.
Yes, super demotivating! The message is crystal clear. Do less!!! Okay! Done!
Also the message was accommodate those who do less! Okay! I’ll go to their level.
When you don’t celebrate your rockstars they become like the average! Hope that’s their goal.
What do you receive for getting an Excellent Performance compared to a Meaningful Performance?

I rated myself Extraordinary Performance and got Meaningful Performance. I am pi---d about because I did do extraordinary work. I am already doing the work of two people since we've had several people quit the team and a couple of layoffs. It is so demotivating! At this point, I am just trying to hold on until the bonus.
The rating is "Extraordinary", not "Excellent". Perhaps attention to detail is something you can work on in 2025.
Yes. Every year, for me anyway, including this one.
I do everything I’m supposed to do plus more and require minimum supervision and always just get meaningful performance no matter what. I do multiple people’s job well and still the same every year. I win legends, still same meaningful performance. What the actual fu-k?
I had 5 extraordinary ratings in a row and suddenly and inexplicably I received a meaningful rating for 2024. My output and results were actually better than in 2023 but things are changing rapidly and not for the better. Get your affairs in order and exit this dumpster fire asap.
