Oswald is a total tool. Good riddance!
So when we promote from within you say all Exxon managers are sh---y. When we hire externally you say RIP internal career progression.
So what is the right approach?
Internally developed exec pool is bottom of the barrel. Send that waste stream to fuel oil and start with new feedstock
Who is sasha? never noticed an announcement?
The HiPos are fu---d. No technical skills to do anything and no career path at Exxon. They're totally fu---d. At least Darren got this one right.
It’s the upstream leadership. It’s why he’s pushed everything to GO&S in Houston. GO&S is run by his good buddy.
DW needs to pair this with an up or out policy for other a$$ clown executives and hipo flame outs.
Internal pipeline is clogged with utter, deeply un-clever rubbish (have you actually talked to any of your VPs etc?). Roto rooting by disposing of home grown clowns as quickly as they can be replaced with anything that has any sort of success externally is the only hope we have of growing into a future. Also pretty much the only item of DW agenda that seems value add
This is less an indictment of internal candidate pipeline and more about realizing we have elevated people with no real valuable edge. Of course you can get a suitable replacement from other places.
This is the basic problem with a subsurface talent pipeline. Nobody knows who's actually good at finding/producing oil. Sure do know who can work the corporate ladder though. The recipe is simple. Either get lucky and pretend to be the key to success or make things up and leave before you get found out. In either case you better be good at how you present yourself and come off as aggressive and prepared. There's no real room for nonconforming personalities. Look at how this pipeline is playing out. Been losing subsurface leadership positions for years now. It's a feedback loop.
Guyana jump started a number of careers that would (should) have otherwise gone no where. Conversely, try not to land in a non-core asset. You will have no stage and no spotlight. That's the key.
