Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Our Culture

Research definitively shows people perform best when they:

  • -enjoy what they do
  • feel secure in the environment
  • they can make progress
  • Feel they belong
  • -are doing meaningful work

How we doing?

None of that ranks as high as that you are compensated well for your skills. That makes you feel secure and that you are valued.

That's any job, always has been. If you are not finding that is it someone else in the company's or the entire company's responsibility to change for you or should you get out and find a job that meets those requirements?

Is the absence of a coherent culture also considered a culture?

Best sign of how a company’s culture is doing is what they do with their excess cash.

A company with a great culture takes their excess cash and invests it back into the company and their employees.

A company with a sh---y culture uses their excess cash to spend billions on stock buybacks so as to stuff as much money in their executives pockets.

We are the latter.

Those characteristics are markers of a strong culture that values them in their people. I experienced them until the last two years when I witnessed them being replaced by personal ambition and other damaging attributes. Perhaps corporate goals to grow and acquire have resulted in blurred behavior lines. At all levels.

All true and so simple. Pre 2020 we still had some managers that focussed on creating an environment that fostered these factors. Look no further than many of the Permian managers at that time. They even really put effort into career development. Now unless it leads to personal gain managers ignore all this. What a shame we demolished a thriving culture to follow BCG youth only plans.
