My husband recently lost his job, and the chances of him finding something new anytime soon don’t look great. With layoffs always looming at Avaya, I’m constantly worried I could be next, which would be a disaster for our family. Working here was never easy, but this situation has pushed my anxiety to new heights.

Blue was prehistoric but it worked & Nortel cared for their employees & customers…from key systems to Opt-81…not just 1500 accounts…all accounts mattered. All I have heard or have read is how miserable Avaya employees have been for many, many years. Go look on job boards on how many companies are migrating away from Avaya…so yes way behind on technology curve while VP’s lines their pockets as this company kept sinking. This ship could have been saved with the right Captain!!!
Red equipment behind the curve? Blue was prehistoric. Combined the workers from each side always took aim at the other colour, that should have been a priority. Ki-ling off the Red / Blue argument. It was a key reason for failure. Neither side would work with the other and stagmentation happened as no clear technology path existed. Product lines should have been ki-led off a long time ago, that or spun off if loyal customers wanted to keep their 30 year old CS1K or Definity working. JC, AM and now the new mo--n are just the latest cancers to finally ki-l off the patient. Someone really needs to put Avaya out of its misery.
Avaya was the worst telecom company I have ever worked for! Red equipment was so far behind the technology curve! The management had their heads up their a**es and did not care about their employees & took advantage of us all!!! Focusing & mastering Avaya was a waste of time…Learn something new & bring your talents to another company who won’t kick you to the curb & care for their customers…ALL their customers not just 1500!!!! When you look for another job notice how many companies are migrating away from Avaya to other companies that actually can support what they are looking for. Shame on you Avaya!!!!! A.M. was & is a fake only came in for his payout & helped bs us all into staying until we got let go…right before holidays…so happy we were all so loyal only to get treated like this. Sc--w Avaya & the mo--ns who sank this place!
At least you made it this far…. Not all of us were lucky enough and have been out of work for 6 weeks now….
Agreed.
It’s easy to say (although I was in a similar position earlier in the year) but try not to let anxiety get the better of you. The key is to focus and make a plan; I’m sure you’ll have plenty of either technical or business skills that can be transferred to a new environment so don’t worry that you won’t have anywhere to go. I’d been an Avaya engineer for years and now happily work in a Teams Phone environment with other people who’ve also come from a variety of backgrounds. It’ll be okay. :)
Start a household budget. Work out the minimum you need. Get cars serviced now etc. Anything needs repairing get it done. Cut the fun stuff for a few months. I know it's the wrong time of year for that advice. But Xmas can be about experiences not things.
Cut the subscription stuff you don't need and put the money away. Netflix etc etc.
Go through all the service providers and make sure they are the best for value. E.G. cell provider, ISP, electric, gas and water.
Get to 3 to 6 months of money in the bank. Be disciplined and don't feel tempted to touch it.
Work out your Medicare options and sort anything Avaya covers now.
Are there any hobbies you or your husband have that can bee turned into a side hustle? If so think how that could happen.
Get your CV tested by ATS systems and start looking for roles whilst you have a job.
Good luck, and never forget this was not your fault. Your employer, Avaya in this case sc--wed up and put you in this position.
