Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Oh it’s coming…

My people leader is acting like a tyrant and asking for things that just aren’t possible. Not like they have any idea of what is or isn’t possible because their knowledge domain is limited to being a middle manager. I sense a lot of pressure coming from above.

It might not be coming for everyone but I fear my time is coming to an end.

I’m at peace with it. The fact it takes me months to do something that could be easily done in the matter of days in other organizations is writing on the wall. I don’t want to climb uphill anymore and put on a dog and pony show for clueless executives. You hired Amazon executives; you get Amazon culture. Godspeed to the true workers who actually build stuff and add value to this corporation.

"And, yes, I laugh at all of their jokes and I agree with everything they say...."

Oh, so you're one if the reasons we're so sc--wed. Thanks. Just a yes man even if there's a bad decision. Go along to get along has gotten Ford where its at. But yeah, what are you going to do right? Leave this insanity is the answer I guess. Let the circlej--kcontinue.

Not being able to deliver what your leader asks for sounds like a 'you' problem.

I always deliver when my leader asks. I go above and beyond - and do things WITHOUT having to be asked.

And, yes, I laugh at all of their jokes and I agree with everything they say. I've even figured out a way to basically repeat their words back to them - but slightly different - so it sounds like we are always on the same wavelength. I received many TA rankings and continue to receive the highest marks.

This is all about survival. You all need to start going along to get along.

You will never find inner peace if you cannot accept where you fit in all of it. Take a step back and do an inventory over the last few years of your time at Ford. Assess the highs and the lows. Only then can you begin to determine how much you give of yourself to this company.

I used to be a fool taking on extra work and working uncompensated hours. It got me nowhere year after year. It gave me resentment. I got so tired of feeling that way that I searched high and low for how to reason it. The best piece of advice I stumbled across came from Charlie Munger (RIP): 1. Never overspend your income. 2. Never harbor jealousy or resentment. When I heard those simple yet eloquent words, it all clicked for me. Nobody cares at this company if they wronged you, the only thing you will get out of jealousy or resentment is those a--holes living rent free in your head.

On overspending your income: INVEST INVEST INVEST! Do not rely solely on Ford to be your way to make a living. Find hobbies that can double as a side hustle, etc. It’s the best I have found to operate in this upside world of Ford.

In addition, the old clowns retire and new lazy clowns 🤡 are inserted.

Wall street is getting impatient with Ford, products have been delayed, warranty costs are rising by the day, EVs are far from being profitable. What are the other areas to reduce costs? Hmmmm.. it's been a while since we've done a reorg/layoff, lets look into that!

There have always been these types of people leaders at Ford. When I was at CAP, I witnessed a Body Area ME manager throw a radio at a superintendent’s head as hard as he could. I’ve been blocked from moving to another group AFTER I was allowed to interview. I’ve been sent to other groups without any say so just so the new director could move in his buddies. Ford management has always been a complete clown 🤡 show. This is nothing new.

@OP+1vzt3yRF there were tyrants in Dearborn way before the Amazon and Apple guys rolled in. [cuts budgets, gets rid of people, keeps changing direction, forces everybody to spend hours and days in useless meetings]: "why isn't it done yet!"

Just be ready for it. Don't stress about it. Everyone wants everything yesterday and the only thing the really need is someone to blame. That is the game. Don't like it, leave. Can you put up with it? Stay. Just don't worry about separation because at some point it will happen to you, and if you aren't ready that is completely your fault and when it does, don't get caught up in the why because it will probably be over BS that no one cares about anyway so move on.

“people leader”

Heh.

I remember when they were admonishing us to not even say things like “male” and “female” connectors.

There is a exceedingly high real cost to political correctness.

I love how it’s participation trophies that have fu---d future generations up and not the hording of wealth/resources, consolidation of power, pointless wars, the rise of corporate power and fall of workers rights.

Can we NOT go there with generational bs? The real issue is our company leadership running this company into the proverbial ground.

When is my plug-in hybrid Bronco going to be released? Stop complaining and get on with that will you? Seriously...I agree with the second response. Just do the job you were hired to do, and be glad you get a paycheck.

@ipe+1vzt3yRF

Exactly. I don’t see a complaint in the OP. There is more of an issue with middle management not having the knowledge and skills to understand what is needed to do the task at hand than the way they execute their managerial style.

Not to mention, that way of working is not producing results. It has nothing to do with generations. I know how to do good work and what it takes. I also know how I want to be treated while doing good work.

@ijo

And you don’t see a problem with that? The auto history has a reputation for treating its employees like sh-t. What’s wrong with wanting that to get better?

You sound like a serial abused making excuses for their abuser. “Oh it’s my fault that he hit me, I burned the roast.”

This “roll over and take it” mentality is pathetic and makes me lose even more respect for boomers.

Seriuosly, these younger generations are so weak and yes, it's probably the fault of us older folks who gave these kids particpation trophies. Just go into work, do a good job, keep your skills relavent, always assume your are replacable and stop crying about the poeple in charge being mean to you. I may be a boomer, but there really isn't anything new about how management treats their minions in the nearly 40 years I've been in the workforce.
