Please describe how Seagate has improved how employees are treated over the last 5 years. List what has gotten better if you can. Help me out because I can’t think of anything.

I don’t understand all the negativity around this company. I’ve worked here for 18 years and I couldn’t be happier. Of course things have changed. Of course things are different but what I’ve witnessed is leadership that has stood by me through hard things in life and has given me the room and space to grow my career. I think Seagate leadership should be looking for the people who want to move forward with them. Honestly, if people are so miserable, perhaps it’s best for you To look for another ship to sail. There’s an old saying that says a house divided cannot stand… i’ve never had trouble getting time off when I need it. I’ve never felt like I wasn’t supported or encouraged to be successful. I hope more people will speak up about the good here at Seagate because there’s nowhere else I would rather be.

Back in the old days of <2012 if you had 15 years with the company you were handed 5 or even 6 weeks of vacation per year. You took it whenever you wanted to, not when it was a nice time for Seagate and there was no justification needed. It was done fairly and equally across the company based on years of service. If you didn't take your vacation, you could opt to be paid for it anyway in full. We had so many employees every single cube was filled and they ran out of space and started talking about expanding the building. There was almost 2,000 people on site and everybody came into work at the office every day. And you didn't leave before 4pm even on Friday because the company was fair to you and you wanted to be fair to the company. The money flowing in those days was amazing and Seagate was rocking. The younger people at Seagate today who think they have it pretty good now have no idea. LOL.

Back in 2012, when I was only a Sr. Engineer my bonus for the year was $12,000, which in todays dollars is $16,000. Sr. Staff people were getting double that just for the basic bonus. Of course, that was peak Seagate when revenue was double what it is today. Sadly, it's never going to be that good again. In terms of CPI adjusted dollars, it's an even worse decline than it looks. Net income has collapsed nearly 1000% from 2012 peak too. The higher paid LCO people who think they are kings were nothing compared to 2012 Seagators in terms of status and wealth back in the day.

I was around in 2002-03 when Seagate went private and public again and was only a Sr. Engineer. They cared about and included the employees more and distributed the monetary success from financial gains down more. For this transaction, I was granted $20K worth of free stock options just as a lowly Sr. Engineer. Keep in mind the value in 2024 money is more like $40K. They wanted all the employees to share in the wealth more back then vs. now and they really did keep them in the loop. Even as lates as 2010 when they cut pay 10% they came back and did a one time payout for the entire pay cut and more to all employees when things improved. Compare that to now. The greed at the top with the current people and lack of sharing wealth becomes very clear.

@1sbw - Doesn't mean a thing. You could take 2 months off before the unlimited as well by claiming hardship. I suspect this person was already planning on bailing their management anyway.

For grins, go ask your manager what they think about you taking two months off. Especially now that headcount is bare minimum with heavy schedules to maintain.

Before “unlimited vacation”. I could take 4-5 weeks off a year. Now it’s 1 as long as I beg a coworker to double their workload for me and they say yes.

FYI, before anyone mentions SPARK, it replaced existing awards programs and arguably the "awards" took a back seat.

You're kidding, right? There has been no introduction of any programs or benefits for employees in the last five years. In fact, wasn't it around five years ago the company took away one week of vacation from senior employees and gave it to new hires? I logged that day as the beginning of the poor treatment of experienced employees by directors and above. So I guess the new hires can't complain but the signal to experienced employees that you are no longer valued couldn't have been any louder.
