Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Stressed out due to bad job market

I would be much less stressed and worried about layoffs if I knew chances out there were good. But they are not, not at all. Most of us are not in the position to be jobless for too long. Knowing that it’s not relatively easy to find a decent replacement job is a major bummer. Makes me feel completely cornered.

With the layoff cycles getting shorter and shorter it doesn’t even work to jump ship as you will often be the first one out the door at the next layoff which will only be a year or two away. Oil prices are pretty high now but everyone is cutting cost as the industry spirals into terminal decline.

OP, shhhhh. You can’t say that here or some boomer and the downvote brigade will come in to call you a baby and tell you to stop whining. I feel you, OP. These sc-m at the top and those who are already set don’t care though. Sending good vibes to all of us whose livelihood is in jeopardy due to pure incompetence at the top. Can’t wait to see this company crumble in a few years.

Most oil company execs are incapable of thinking for themselves. "Monkey see - monkey do" as they say. Unfortunately this also applies to layoffs. All oil companies layoff together. That's why it's important to remember that if you want to job hop, do it when things are good and not when things are bad.

I know this might be a bit too late this go around, but don't forget it for next time when oil prices go over $100 and executives start talking about "labour shortage" and how much "they value y'all".
