Could not find the data the previous post referencing. Seems in direct contradiction of published fire rates which show EV having 20x fewer fires per sold vehicle relative to ICE.

OK so according to Experian there are 3,300,000 EVs on the road in the US. There are 288,500,000 internal combustion vehicles currently in service. NHTSA reports 16,102 EVs catching fire every year, and 199,533 ICE cars catching fire. Percentage of EVs catching fire is 16,102 / 3,300,000 or 0.0048 percent a very small number, however ICE numbers look like 199,533 / 288,500,000 which is 0.00069 percent. So if we look at what happens out there we can conclude these fires are rare and that .0048 / .00069 = 6.95. That is to say the incidence of fire in a vehicle is almost 7 times greater in an EV.

"the incident per 100,000 manufactured doesn't tell the whole story" What do you mean? If it's per 100k manufactured, that already took into account how many are on the road.

All EV's and hybrid battery packs can ignite. It doesn't happen often but there is a risk. The scary thing is they can't be put out with a fire extinguisher, or conventional means like a fire hose. People claim they're actually safer, but that is a statistical slight of hand. If you consider total vehicles on the road - all the ICE and EV and hybrids, the incident per 100,000 manufactured doesn't tell the whole story. How many fender benders resulted in a melt down vs a fuel leak vs an extinguished fire and not a toxic blow torch. EV proponents never pass stats on that are a bit more real world - always nuanced towards positive acceptance. The insurance companies do though. State Farm just pulled chargers from all it's properties! Get in a fender bender, nobody after that knows how safe your car really is. If your pack thermal sensing component fails, charging could overheat and shazaam. Lots more to the story.
