Do you think there will be Mattel layoffs? Any chatter, news or rumors?

Well, so much for a discussion regarding politics. Greatly appreciate the administrators deleting over 20 posts in this thread of free speech…which doesn’t exist on this site. God forbid we offend anyone.
It’s unfortunate when the loosing team resorts to banter that is otherwise beneath them. Truth can make one so unbecoming.
Sounds like a village is missing its’ id--t…. and Mattel is the new owner of his opinion.
Wow. And maybe Santa Claus is real and the earth is flat.
Wow, amazingly misinformed point of view. Sounds like an insulated long-timer. How about those layoffs? Any inside info or just the perpetual anxiety of corporate downsizing? Seems this type of anxiety is what keeps Mattel looking silly.
the factories that are being set up in other countries such as indonesia and india and pakistan for example are chinese by the way. because china still has the expertise and speed in creating the tools for things such as toys for companies like mattel. it also has the infrastructure to provide the raw materials to create these tools and the labor pool to produce these.
if these tools in these other countries break they would still have to get them from, oh guess where - china. so unless you are willing to spend a decades creating that same infrastructure in the US it is not cost effective to produce things like toys in the US. that is why the US has moved on to focusing on high technology and the manufacturing of fancy shmancy materials instead of going backwards to the industrial age.
typical of mattel people that like to play the victim and want someone to save them. rich people and big companies are not in the business of lifting people up. they are in the business of making money for themselves. it doesn't matter if that revenue comes from overseas or what. it matters how high the margin is. if you are deluded enough to think that a rich man who made money stealing from others is interested in your welfare then i wish you all the luck in the world.
This isn’t a matter of questioning one’s intelligence or touting that a degree in economics makes your opinion a decree, but rather common sense. You speak of other poorer nations out there willing to be taken advantage of, those last frontiers no longer exist. The worldwide standard of living continues to improve while here in the US ours continues to decline.
My guy is suggesting getting your yada yada head out of your a-s because you clearly are unable to see what’s happening around you.
as long as people are prepared to pay the price for american made goods. you talk the talk but will you walk the walk? if people are complaining about the price of goods today when they are made in countries where wages are still nowhere near wages in the US what do you think they would say if they had to pay for goods american made. and before you tell me that all of that would be offset by the shipping and yada yada yada i will tell you to take an economics class first. no one makes money off of charity. money gets made off of the exploitation of others. you enjoy a cheap barbie because mattel can make it in an automated factory 24 hours a day with the lights off and mostly robots in a factory in indonesia and they can make packaging that can pollute a river where no one cares and they can pay off officials. at some point china will not want to make toys anymore. as their middle class progresses they will move away from more of this manual labor just like americans did and manufacturing will follow poverty to another poorer country that is willing to be exploited. thats just how it is. as much as you wish to turn the clock back to the 50s, those days are gone bruh. and if you believe your guy because he told you he could do that then you're d-mber than you look.
Wow! China’s economy has experienced decades of prosperous growth with increases in their standard of living resulting in higher costs in manufacturing therefore making US manufacturing a viable option. Is it better to continue improving an adversarial economy vs fixing our own? That’s what this is all about, straight forward and simple, the people have spoken.
Geopolitical events will affect Mattel operations and business. As it will affect employees and shareholders. An employees hope that management willl do the right thing is wishful thinking. That’s the track record of this company.
Topic at seems to be Mattel’s inability to execute large projects. If any manufacturing needs relocation to the US, management will not be able to handle the task. Anyone think the ex-factory cost of a HW die cast will be 0.29 cents? Or produce 65% PM. Start worrying . If you voted for felon, be careful what you wished for!
ummmm tariffs worked great last time?
oh please stop. we had him before and we know what he knows, it's not going to be a surprise to anyone.
When Mattel talks about reshoring manufacturing and blah blah blah insert big words here etc etc and whatever word salad they want it comes down to this: at the end of the day they will not make that big of an investment in a US operation just to make toys locally. This doesn't come about overnight. They're just trying to BS their investors from running for the doors. It's a sure sign when you know Mattel is lying because they start to break out their thesaurus and have their fake economists and magic accountants write a rosy prognostication of the future.
@3ysi+1vpml8Jw good point. They have a terrible track record when it comes to rolling out large, systemic projects.
From an investor’s perspective , Mattel management having a plan is not reassuring. How about when the DC in Pennsylvania was outsourced and was an absolute debacle. They have a poor track record at big projects.
Mattel has a contingency plan for reshoring manufacturing to the US. This is no secret, they’ve talked about it publicly. The plan involves leveraging automation and the logistical cost benefits of making toys locally to offset any increases in labor costs. With tariffs in place, it would be less expensive to make toys in the U.S. than in factories overseas.
If Tariff on foreign goods do come to fruition , Mattel employees are up a creek . Thank the president elect for that because that’s what he said. If that’s what you voted for , be careful what you wish for. The man doesn’t even understand how a tariff works.
Annual layoffs scheduled for end of January as usual. Why would the pattern change?
Not even a Trump economy can prevent Mattel from eventually having layoffs. Plus, Mattel will use any excuse to have them, it’s an annual occurrence and has been going on for so long…its considered standard practice.
