Thread regarding CDW layoffs

Leadership & Morale in small business

There is zero morale or hope in Small business across the board... how are some of the VPs and top managers (looking at East specifically) still at CDW?

Account managers are making barely any money in small business. Top accounts are hoarded by tenured account execs, with the rest of these teams barely getting by on spiffs - which CDW already takes a fat cut from.

What will CDW look like in 5 years?

“Kirb why didn't you speak up against these dum--ss decisions on our behalf?“

Because he is so bought and paid for that he can’t afford to do anything except “go along”. He will never speak up, but you really can’t blame the guy. He seems like an OK person but he would be lucky to be a sales manager in any other company, so he has to keep his mouth shut and be a good soldier so he can collect. Just like all the rest of the executive lifers at CDW.

WTF! My sister is a human resources director for a company in Chicago and she handed me a printed paper showing that we had a Vice President of Coworker Services Success > Liz Connelly that was indeed hired by Chris L with no experience in human resources. She looked it up because they hired someone who used to work here in HR who told her of all of the disfunction. The top fu--ing HR job in a multi-million dollar company that is a specialized people function?????????? My BFF in Coworker Experience said no one complained because the surveys can reflect sh-t like how age groups, s-x of a person, races, voted and it is easy to figure how people voted. I didn't know that sh-t! Why do you say its anonymous when the managers and directors can see those details? She was like "and everyone was aware that Chris and Liz were longtime friends so we just didn't complain". It's no wonder my Public Sales office has poor hiring and is so fu---d up because no one is held accountable. What kind of a--hole moves are we making? I was thinking all of you on this site could all be doing more harm than good to CDW and our ability to sale but you helped me see the light. I am not a d-mb fu-k so I researched it all of your posts and they kept being correct. Kirb why didn't you speak up against these dum--ss decisions on our behalf? You enabled this sh-t by not standing up for us. I am applying for jobs today even though I have been here a while and am near the top of sales in my office. I will take my talents to a place that gives a fu-k about me and their employees.

Small Business has traditionally been a well organized / well run Segment that was consistent across 500+ Coworkers. It also was the Segment with the lowest ceiling for income. The top performers made good money... but not insane money like other Segments. Compared to other Segments as a whole, SB always seemed to have a strong culture... but all teams have areas to improve. Anybody have anything specific that has changed recently (beyond the impact of low performance the whole company is seeing)?
Interestingly enough, SB is known as the "canary in the coal mine" for CDW. Their business seems to always "turn" first when the economy turns. For better or worse. The last 2 years has been rough throughout CDW. Hoping SB turns things around as that would be a great sign for the rest of CDW!

Small business is a train wreck. Norm should have left many years ago. He comes off as the congenial uncle but behind that mask is a fake man who's home life su-ks and the only thing he has left is CDW. Unfortunately, he is far past his prime and his old school antics like AMTRs and ARTRs do nothing for the business. He always says "If you ever need anything" or "I will help" Ever hear or Norm calling on customers or visiting customers 1:1 (not customer events)? Of course you haven't because he's terrified of being exposed. How many of the top 50, heck top 25 SB accounts has Norm visited or did a call with? As the man said, good luck we're all counting on you.

To the original poster - I thought the East (in SB) used to have the best morale and best culture. Just curious - what happened?

You go girl. Configs is the worst but what do you expect? Our VP SC --OPS is best friends with both Directors and he hides the truth about his director in LV who he knows is a flirt and harrass women coworkers. It is configs and the other jobs too are bad for women. The VP SC told supervisors they can tell by age and woman or man and race how coworkers answer our evals when they are sent so we lie our a-- off on them to make them look good so we don't get fired

It's a bully culture there, especially in the Configs department. God help you if you're a woman over the age of 40 and work there. I have stories to tell on the management of that department treat women, and I'm going to go public with it.

Consider yourself lucky if they cut you loose.

Hilarious that today its woke up on a day that is a holiday for lots of other companies only to discover Salesforce is once again effed and not allowing anyone to assign themselves cases. Losing hours and days of productivity because a software reseller can't install or update their own software correctly is unhinged.

Yup if you haven’t already - keep your resume updated. Take advantage of the time to keep working on it until it’s ready to go.

"I also had the misfortune of being put into that division without warning and without being asked. And for the entirety of my tenure I was abandoned. Wish that was hyperbole but I literally was the only person doing my job, none of my 3 managers ever bothered to learn or understand my duties so I had nobody to help me, and then when I woke up to the fact I was holding sh!t down with literally zero resources or assistance (and as a defacto manager to the extra person they finally hired)? Shouting into a void. The person who recommended me for the job who has been working there longer than me often said to me, small business is a failed experiment and at least for me, that is painfully true. I'm truly sorry for anyone still stuck on that ruderless ship."

  • Holy cr-p! We must have the same job! I've received ZERO help from "magement" in the years I've been at this place

Im deeply sorry to hear that. My brother took a min to find something new but he is now working at a distro center with another company and they have the teamster's union representing them and they get paid much more and they protect their jobs and help with discipline. Their benefit costs are cheaper and cover more with less out of pocket. they get more breaks and pay for food and have to work in safe places and they are not allowed to use contractors to do their job without their permission so they can get more overtime when they want it. They also make sure they have more days off and get double time for holidays and over time and other sh--. He said it is awesome and isn't scared of being RIFFted. Maybe our coworkers in VH and LV need to look into that because his teamsters union stopped their company from bringing in robots to do their job like picking and packaging. He suggested that I share that before it is too late. I never been in a union so I cant say but he likes them and now makes more than I do in sales. He said if they vote on it they will send leaders they trust to speak to them to tell them it is a bad idea and how they get two hours of their pay a month but he said in the end they make much more and are safer. He is telling me now that is why there are so many of them. He said even the government and airlines and others have them. He told me to write not to fall for their sh-- and do it because it will save their jobs.

Yes, co workers in VH have been let go and replaced already. I'm guessing on the low cuz when I sent this thread to someone I know, they let me know that the person they know who worked in VH for years recently got let go and replaced by air. So it's already happening.

It's amazing to see us all working together to aid us inside and outside of CDW. The sharing of stories and what we learned from coworkers about sales safety legal security and coworker experience helps us understand what is happening. The comments below about our coworkers at the distro centers being in trouble are concerning because they busted their a-- during the pandamic while the rest of us worked from home. Technology and automation to replace them shows they don't give a sh-- about any coworkers and our families. That happened to my brother last year and they cut 90 of 112 people that worked at his distro center job at another company. Does anyone know if any of the coworkers at the Chicago and Vegas distro centers were laid off last month and if they know about what might happen to them? My brother was non-union so he didn't have any recourse. My manager was told the sok center that monitors storms and dangers to coworkers and calls us to let us know might be outsourced to go to China. He was like, sh-- we just hired them and they left jobs to come here. A--holes!!!!!!!!!!! I also heard they may close some CDW offices. I live close to work and would hate to deal with fu----- traffic to get to work at the office near the airport or north to the distro center. I am going to start looking for another job and keep my customers close in case I get RIFTed, they will remember me if I go elsewhere. What have y'all heard?

SMB West just as bad or worse. Lowest morale I’ve seen in over 10 years. Leadership is stale and has no clue anymore how to manage or motivate. Just going through the motions and not bringing any value to their teams. This place used to be an exciting and legit fun place to work. Now it’s just power-tripping middle managers who are untouchable and can manage same team for YEARS no matter performance. What a joke this division has become. Good time to look elsewhere.

When I was serving tables in college and a random patron recommended CDW to me as a starting point, he said “CDW is great, as long as you don’t get placed in small business sales!”. That was a while ago, looks like it still holds true.
