Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Asking for advice

I’m currently with another company, and I want to change jobs. Chevron is one the options on the table. Not much of an improvement compared to my current job in terms of pay, but I figured it’s time for change. What’s the culture? Work-life balance? Does it make sense to join Chevron now? Thanks for any information or advice. This would be my second job in the industry, and I want to weigh my options carefully.

I assume you’re in Bangalore in which case this is a great time to join Chevron!

The employee experience depends on your manager. If you have a leader as a manager, that appreciates and goes to bat for the team, and shields against unnecessary drama, then it is a great place if you are decent at the work. If you have a check the box middle manager Chevroid for a boss, that does not go to bat for the team, then it can be a terrible employee experience, even if you work all the time.

I think a layoff board is the wrong place to do your research. I retired at the age of 56. I was blessed to work with a lot of great people and I got to live and work in 4 different countries. Growing up in Iowa, I never would have imagined a career like I had. For me it was a great company and a great career. I worked in downstream and upstream and both have advantages and disadvantages.

I think oil and gas will be around for a long time. Solar and wind can’t replace it.

If you were serious, you would already know that oil is going downhill and you should find another industry.

I've been here for about 18 months, the mgr is ok, folks on the team knowledgeable and supporting but not too motivated. I was able to learn and grow and given that i am fairly early in my career I am very happy. the pay is good tho it can be better. i think you'll like it

Why are you going to a layoff site to ask about whether to take a job? Sounds like you are trolling. If you take the time to read other posts you will see Chevron has great employees who are getting laid off for half assed reasons. Chevron used to have a good culture.
