If you’re still holding onto the idea that CVX leadership has your best interest at heart, it’s time to let that go. And it's not just here. No matter the company, it’s all the same. The harder you work, you keep making someone else richer. The truth is, nowhere is truly safe. You’ve got to look out for yourself because companies sure aren’t. Do what you need to get by, nothing more, nothing less. It’s survival.

Just remember, the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Some of us know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
22 years and the only person that has had my back is me, why would you think the company does? I've had bosses that support me because I'm a dedicated worker. In some ways, the company does have your back with a pension that the majority of companies don't give people, as well as generous 401k matches and other perks.
@aqj+1vkY9N8i ouch, you hurt our feelings, sleep well.
Welcome to the real world buttercup
I’m already carrying the workload of 3 people, deadlines be damned, it gets done when it gets done. How do we manage the stress of upcoming reorgs, coupled with accelerated deadlines? Making it through to the other side only guarantees a greater workload to those who get to keep their jobs. CIP will be low to non existent, salary raises haven’t kept up with inflation …..this is getting ridiculous and not worth the stress!
Op, no one with a bit of experience expects a corporation or of that matter anyone outside your immediate family has your best interest at heart. One would be lucky if they have it from their immediate family. People in America take their job too seriously and unfortunately treat it as no. 1 priority, it is just a job, your life, your family, your well being [physically and mentally] is far more important that your career, your promotions, your pay checks. You can always find a job [for better or worse if you try hard enough] but you can not get your health back, the kids birthdays that you missed because of your work assignment, the moments you needed to be with your sick family member and you skipped it because of your job, etc. So expecting g someone else to back you when you do not back the most fundamental valuable things in life is an unreasonable expectation.
Legally they do NOT have to offer severance. They do it to reduce lawsuits. Many companies offer nothing. Not saying you should be happy but truth is truth.
To those praising the virtues of a ‘long warning and fair severance, that is only if you last that long. With the HQ move, massive restructuring and significant push to offshore, they are trying to push all of us out before they have to legally offer us a severance. anyone at risk needs to look up your local employment law rules. They’re scared for a reason.
but they preach work-life balance
Your manager might care about you. But the “machine” does not. It will roll right over your lifeless carcass and not even notice.
Don’t allow a job to stress you to death, that job will be posted online before your obituary..
Very true message. However, some companies sharpen the axe and you get pennies on the way out with no notice. This company, you get an amazing amount of warning, a long break up period and a fair severance. Anyone who says different has never worked outside of an operator during hard times.
True, it’s not your company. Spend the extra hours and energy on yourself & your family.
