How likely is that there will be Nokia layoffs? Any chatter, news or rumors?

@etd Majority of the job postings are "fake or ghost" job postings to make it look like Nokia is continuously hiring (perhaps to make it look like it's a growing company so investors continue to buy stock of the company). Most companies do this. Then the CEO can take a huge package when the share goes about a certain amount (and holds above that price for a certain time period) that's written in his contract. Read the documents they report to investors (it's public information) and file each year.

Were there layoffs today (Feb 13, 2025)? Anyone know how many and in which orgs? And which location in NAM (North American Market - includes South America, USA, Canada)?

Management is still targeting 50+ year olds in Nokia USA and hiring interns and new unexperienced talent in their place. This is ridiculous.

Management is still protecting some of the 70+ year olds in Nokia USA. This is ridiculous.

Former Nokia. Worked there 4 years and let go this year. I was brought in by someone who was a legacy and I had known throughout the last 20 years. My team was downsized and replaced by mostly interns and new college grads. Nokia for the past 3 years has been downsizing payroll. They did a generational survey and found that their workforce was aging far more than sustainable for 20+ year growth. If you are under 30, you are highly likely to land a job at Nokia. It is a brutal reality but the mergers and many 20+ year employees are targets for layoff despite laws that are supposed to protect them.

Are the jobs real, sort of. Many of them end up being internal transfers for people trying to stay at Nokia and not get laid off. The rest are age discrimination hires where someone that was paid a lot was displaced for someone who will accept less. This is common across tech companies.

The layoffs at Nokia are not necessarily about skills. Automation is replacing high paid workers. Welcome to the automation age where tech marginalizes the worker.

outsider here. I regularly see job openings from Nokia for embedded software engineers or system software engineers but I don't even get interview calls. I get a standard response that says 'we proceeded with other more eligible candidates'. I have been looking at mostly Nokia Finland. My question is are these job openings real? Is there really some hiring going on? I know the market is bad and Nokia is laying off people. But my question is that I see job postings too on a regular basis. Confused and disappointed.
