In theory any of our jobs can be offshored but some are less likely than others. What sorts of rolls should I be looking to move into to be safer? I'm guessing field operations, managemant support, and HR. Other thoughts?

"just like how the Indians had to pretend to care about college football and reality TV"
Well, in case anyone cares, I am 100% American, from the South born and raised, and I have to "pretend to care" about much of that nonsense.
I can imagine that people born with a slightly higher intellectual disposition than us would think of much of our behavior as folly. Is that not blatantly obvious?
All the subsurface job postings are for India
I'm a field operator. I was ready to jump ship to the salary side. Specifically in the IT chapter. But after seeing all this news I think I might just stay an operator
If you are sitting at a desk in an office, your work can be offshored. Get to the field. Put your hands on equipment.
ENGINE will be an ENGINEering hub; way more than just outsourcing IT. Possibly more down the road or initially... stay tuned.
It's time to do some cultural pandering my friend, think weebs, but desi style. Indian culture is pretty interesting so it won't be that bad, food is great, religions have lots of gods to choose from and movies have dance routines, start absorbing now, just like how the Indians had to pretend to care about college football and reality TV.
Get close to the well head. Period.
But why would you want to avoid losing your job? Chevron is in structural decline. I’m happy to be first into a life boat
In the short term I do not see core petro-tech jobs moving en masse to india. However, if predictions about the power of AI workflows become a reality down the road, there could certainly be a long-term decline in numbers across all tech disciplines. I am guessing the development of such "new workflows" takes longer than some in Sr. management think (decades rather than years), but change in a constant in this industry.
HR is going down by 40%. You can tell because ELT and LT are more concerned about their placement than ours. MG is the only one that is safe and her role will be downgraded on executive team compared to RM.
PDC process will be eliminated and everyone will be manage moved from here in out. When they are worried for themselves, they don't give a hoot about you.
Changing roles won't occur for most. If it does it won't be safe in HR or maybe anywhere. The field is it.
Half the jobs will be in low cost locations in 2 years. Every job up to psg 23 is at risk.
Something that requires you to spend extensive time in the field is your best bet. If it can be done remotely then it can be done in India (or Argentina…or Columbia…or the Philippines….)
Most jobs deemed safe in Houston HQ will most likely be temporary. Moving jobs to India is not the only threat. Moving positions to Philippines and Argentina are also likely to happen. It is best to update your resume, pay attention to announcements and be prepared when and if there are layoffs that impact you. Unfortunately, this is the beginning of the end for many in the US at CVX.
Jelly Roll maybe.
My first thought is you should just “roll” over and take it like a man.
