Thread regarding CDW layoffs

Moved On and I’m So Much Happier!

I left CDW right before the last round of layoffs. Had I known they were coming, I’d have volunteered to be first in line as I saw the ship sinking and was ready to get in a lifeboat. My new job is amazing! Not only do I get paid more, I also don’t have to be tethered to my phone/email all day, everyday. I went from being in back to back to back meetings to one meeting a month, which is totally optional! I also got to set my own work hours and now work 6am-2pm. I asked for this schedule at CDW but was turned down, told I had to be available during “business hours”. I wasn’t in Sales so the reason to deny this never really made sense to me as I wasn’t serving any customers. I have no ill feelings towards CDW, but it’s sad to watch the ship sink. After hearing they missed another quarterly earnings, I know I made the right decision in getting out while the getting was good. Hope those that have been laid off are finding something else and those that want to leave are motivated to do so. I never say the grass is greener because it usually isn’t, but in this case, I’m looking at green grass all around!

The nepotism and favoritism blindly leads to a circle the drain pattern. The same thing happened at ConAgra good people gradually pushed out or kept quiet until some very isolated observers like top person in i.s. whose disgust could no longer be silenced stated at all hand meeting that everyone is qualified to sell used cars. Then Gary Rodkin quit and drain got circled faster. Nobody got smarter and stocks are being lashed for lack of transparency.

Congrats! Glad things worked out for you! I know of several coworkers who got out earlier this year including just recently. What was bad was after the 2023 layoffs, many were relieved they didn’t get cut but brushed it off as a good thing to trim underperformers but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Things continued to decline, not just in sales but from many things internally such as the Sirius integration and messy Salesforce rollout.

Then early 2024 RIF hit and a number of really good people were cut. So 2nd layoff within a year and it was a wake up call for many. Nothing improved in 2024, in fact it got worse. As months went by I saw numerous key folks quit. Throughout 2024 I’ve lost track of the number of people I was familiar with who left, including recently. This summer a long time and good manager I was familiar with left for another Reseller.

A few good tenured SA/Presales guys in DV-Cloud just recently left and that’s on top of a few who were cut in the recent layoff.

So 3 RIFs within 2 years and this last one (2nd for 2024) hit morale hard - the sinking ship became more clear if it wasn’t already…not just from a sales perspective but many things internally from leadership.

The tech related market isn’t great now to find a job for a lot of roles but keep your resume updated as the business climate & job market should hopefully see improvements in the new year.
