I was RIFd 10/18, and that was also my last day of work. I want to share a few things. I've been an employee over 25 years and this is NOT the Anthem I knew and loved.
I had a note on my computer at all times for a sudden Thursday morning meeting, with things I wanted to say: 1) THANK YOU, 2) I have been miserable for months, 3) If you can find somebody who can do the job better than me, great! 4) If you cannot find anybody who can do this job, I told you so!
I also had questions prepared to ask. 1) how many people from our immediate team were eliminated? 2) how many people from the bigger (boss's boss) team were eliminated? NOTE: this made my boss and the HR guy panic a little that I was prepared.
Take everything personal OFF your work drive - NOW. Send copies of your W2 and recent pay stubs to your home email (add SECURE to the subject line)
Send impact awards to as many people as you can think of. When you get the confirmation of the impact award submission, email that to the recipient. If they do not receive the award, or the entire award, they will know their manager blocked the award.
If you are set up to lose PTO (I lost 3 weeks) DONATE IT to anybody OUTSIDE your work group. The recipient's manager needs to approve the PTO donation, and if the recipient is inside your workgroup it probably will not transfer. These are ways to stick it to the company and yet help others. I wish I'd thought to donate my PTO, but I did submit impact awards (and was able to cash in some points I already had.)
I was never told that the RIF was a secret. I told as many people as I could.
I am happy to be out from there. It's not the Ben Lytle or Larry Glasscock company it once was. Stop reading this and take your personal items off your network drive. NOW.
