Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

BCBS and FEHB

I'm a former Anthem employee (I left in 2021- my choice) and now current federal employee. I don't know if this would be interesting to any of you or not, but I do believe the federal employee health benefits plan is a big chunk of Anthem's aka Elevance business. Here is a view from one of your customers...

The premiums for 2025, office visit copays, prescriptions etc are jumping up quite a bit for us for 2025. From what I've seen on Reddit plus just informally talking to coworkers, a good number of feds are going to ditch Anthem BCBS. Aetna seems to be a popular choice for what people are migrating to; over $100 less per pay period and lower co-pays, for similar coverage. I'll be making that switch myself; I've had BCBS since I left there. I know every company is trying to make a profit, but dang...especially when I see here how much Gail is making.

I wish all of you still there the best of luck; I've kept tabs on what's going on via this site, plus I still have some friends still working there. And, I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss those AIP checks...

What about Aetna's provider networks? Are they comparable? I always got the sense Aetna was much smaller.. I live in Georgia, would I find enough in network providers to be able to switch?

I was an Elevance employee until the summer, but we have FEHB through my husband’s job (he’s a federal employee).

This post is correct. The plan we have been on (basic option) is going away altogether and the replacement FEHB plans aren’t comparable while costing more.

We would have left anyway because we had a terrible experience getting a life saving specialty dr-g approved for my daughter this year (completely standard usage within FDA guidelines but the health plan made it more restrictive- in violation with their contract by the way).

Thanks for the sentiment post. I have a feeling we're going to miss an AIP check too. Maybe we should ask Spark how it (or Gail) plans to spend our bonus and the higher premiums we are all paying.

Absolutely true! I recently got to have a chat with a few folks at our local post office and none of them wanted to come anywhere close with the postal benefits offered by Elegance. They all were gravitating towards Aetna's plan.

I'm glad the few folks I know who were RIFFES have been able to find jobs at Aetna and UHG - and if you look closely at the numbers, it just paints a grim pic of ELV.

There needs to be a no confidence vote on Gail by the board of directors soon before she brings the whole company down.

Aetna has a much better platform/s then Hellevance. I helped build them. Aetna offers better products and better service. I'm not surprised by OG's post. Mark B was a hellva a better CEO then Gail.

Yes the fed groups are large book of business. Aetna in more than product line is going to out beat Elevance as we try to scramble together tech capabilities and new platforms.
