Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Layoffs should be about performance

I wouldn’t mind layoffs at all if they were based on performance. But that's never been the case. At least not as long as I've worked here, and I've been here a fair number of years. I've seen the best employees walked out again and again. That's where the real issue with layoffs lies.

The crazy thing for me is that we act like associates should just go about their day like the dumpster fire isn't happening all around them.

Pay no attention to the failed policies and implementations. Pay no attention to the treatment of our fellow associates. Pay no attention to all the corp double talk and out of touch leadership. Pay no attention to your additional, uncompensated workload. Pay no attention to the constant gaslighting pumped out by comms. Pay no attention to how this effects your work/life balance. Pay no attention to the fact that you can be rifed at any time for reasons that aren't usually the ones communicated to you. Pay no attention when we barely wait the legal amount of time to open a position just like yours for cheaper with someone new, slower and years away from equal contribution. Pay no attention to how defeated you feel every day. Pay no attention that the leaders stopped caring about us post covid.

Bottom line, pay no attention to the leaders. Pay attention to your fellow associates. Kids take care of each other when parents don't. We can too.

Agree 100% I was carrying the load of my team, no performance issues just unlucky salary target. My former co workers were lazy, riding my coattails, well now they will know what true work is! Totally unfair I had to carry the weight of incompetent staff and now unfair I lost my job while they remain. A symptom of poor management as I told my “ director “ all about this issue numerous times but it fell on deaf ears and as OP states fear from firing due to not being able to back fill. Oh well no more sitting on their arses eating bon bons now they will have to earn their paychecks and work a full day!

Agreed, Layoffs should be about performance. Unfortunately, at this company they are about who is popular and who is not! That's a contributing factor to why this place is a dumpster fire, run by megalomaniacs.

I think they should ask for volunteers for RIFs. Some folks would be interested in leaving if offered a severance package.

They can keep me here and try to lead by fear, but jokes on them. They don’t scare me, nor does fear motivate me to be more productive.

I’ll either take the paycheck and do the work of ONE person or take a severance and part ways amicably.

And we have a number of absolutely incompetent people who still have jobs because the managers are afraid to fire them, knowing they can't hire anyone else because of the so called "hiring freeze". Meanwhile I have 20 years of superior performance and am told not to let the door hit me on the a-s on the way out. My coworkers just realized how much they are going to be responsible for when I'm gone and they are practically in tears.
