Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Are things ever going to improve?

Layoffs are always on my mind now. Always. I used to worry about them a few times a year, but now it’s constant, and I’m just worn out. This stress is really taking a toll on me, and I’m thinking it might be time to start job hunting. I know it won’t be easy at my age, but this can’t be good for my health.

Nothing will change at Cigna until there's new leadership at the top.

No, not any time soon.

The higher ups believe that Ai is the solution. It’s not, or at least we are far from ready. More layoffs are coming in Dec and expect more into the new 2025 year. They have invested millions into tech but the money has to come from somewhere, thus letting people go. My dept was cut in half and we help to set up the Ai tech, go figure. Nit sure whose making the decisions but complete lack of strategy and vision.

I feel the same way, especially with the current state of my team and the lack of work assigned. Rest assured, I'm not too worried because I've been doing a lot of learning and personal development when I get free time to do so. I'd recommend you do the same, it's never too late to develop some skills.

I believe I heard in the Town Hall yesterday that the goal is to have the happiest and healthiest work environment for AI in the industry.

Honestly, not really and not for a while. But, those of us who read this board probably think about it and in turn stress about it more than others. If I didn't know of this board, I hear literally nothing about these layoffs from people at work.

If you think you have a group particularly at risk and even if not, it may make you feel better to get your resume up to date and start searching around to see what is out there and interests you while you are still working here.

If you can, try to skip reading this board for a while. I do feel this board, as much as I like having the info, does get in your head sometimes.

Try thinking it in terms of numbers and odds, you have far greater odds of staying than being let go, they can't fire everyone.

Not at all trying to belittle your feelings and I apologize if it comes off that way, but the only way this gets better for you personally is in how you handle the information available to you.
