Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Paranoid Coworker

I have a coworker who doesn’t get along with our supervisor. He is becoming increasingly paranoid and thinks everyone is out to get him. Even innocent interactions are filtered through his increasingly paranoid conspiracy theory filter and he thinks everyone is out to get him. I like him. What can I do to help him see we aren’t all trying to stab him in the back?

Be nice. Do the right thing, be a good human… we actually need each other more than we realize.

All those making silly comments have clearly never been at rock bottom, or seen what it looks like close up — and I’m happy for you. But look in the mirror and think carefully about who you are.

Good luck and I hope your colleague is ok.

Senior management creates fake stories to justify discrimination. This is old news. Then they will try and document it to cover their own as--s. They are sc-mbags with zero integrity. I knew some hard working people who were abused because they didn’t fit the stereotypical white and wealthy pipeline.

A senior manager told some guy that him and his people don't belong at this company.

I’m curious if the person is white I heard some of the supervisors in Houston are being openly racist now probably where some of this paranoia is coming from.

Probably warranted especially if your on the gulf coast. There’s a supervisor that selects one every year and grinds them so hard they quit. Sounds just like her

I know a supervisor who harassed a guy and fabricated a whole bunch of stuff to try to get people on her side. She is pretty messed up and everyone knows it and I am confident that individual was paranoid for a good reason. This persons paranoia might be real give them the benefit of the doubt until you know for sure.

I would be concerned for him on a personal level. It’s not unheard of that paranoia can lead to self harm. I hope he’s okay.

@OP Is it in your job description to sit and listen to his unhinged rants? If not then don’t talk to the MF.

Do not do the following:

  1. Scatter the group whenever the coworker approaches.
  1. Write suggestive items on the wall of a meeting room that you know the coworker will enter
  1. Get everyone in the group to individually ask the coworker questions like: How long do you expect to work at EM? Have you ever thought about job searching? Etc…
  1. Organize group lunches or gatherings and leave out that coworker.
  1. Whenever the coworker approaches, always say “there you are, we were just talking about you”

He need s a promotion and is definitely HIPO material. Supervisor in the making. Exxon loves these wackos. I have worked with several of these special people through the years. hey call it courage of conviction. I call it protection of the special needs. Even if they get violent exxon will put up with it.

Someone is taking "Actively Caring" to the next level. Passively Care, bro. And, like the poster below hints at, keep your door locked.

You are supposed to report these extreme behaviors, what if this person is very unstable and can be a potential threat?
