Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Overwhelmed and underappreciated

I genuinely love my job and I always strive to do my best. But it feels like Dell just doesn’t know when to stop piling on more work. The harder I push, the more they expect from me. It's getting to the point where it’s just too much. Are they intentionally trying to demotivate the dedicated employees? What's the goal here?

“This is a load of cr-p. Take control of your own life and stop depending on "the masses" to help you. I left a job after 15 years, started my own business with a colleague and took control of our lives. We sold the business and cashed out. I eventually ended at Dell, but it's a paycheck....that's it. You can get that anywhere.”
"WTF are you trying say? Everybody should quit, start a mediocre business, cash out, then go back to the Dell shithole for a paycheck? Whats your point? Where’s the value in your comment?"
“My point is quit relying on someone else to provide you income for you. Take control of your life and your career. And quit effing complaining.”

Wait a minute, but you’re back to “relying on someone else” for a paycheck, aren’t you? You sure took control of your life, didn’t ya! Your advice is garbage. Keep that sheet to yourself.

Was just thinking the other day how many roles in my org have been eliminated in the last year, and how all of that work has fallen on our team (in addition to our own team taking significant hits). Each of us are basically doing the work of 4-6 people. My manager knows how overworked we are, acknowledges it, and pushes back where they can...but these decisions are coming from levels higher. Meanwhile, the people we face with wonder why everything is moving at a snails pace...kinda hard when you're kicking 50 cans down the sidewalk.

OP I could have written your post last year. I got to a point where I realized they’re gonna do what they’re gonna do and it’s not in your control. Focus on what you can control and take care of you.

If you think about it, leaving and starting over is not the best answer. This is what you've been trained to believe. And having confidence isn't enough these days. Not enough even with your overpriced degree. For employees with years to decades of time invested, starting over isn't an option. "

You just need to learn how to do less with less like Jeff told us

I think the GOAL is to get us to be miserable and quit. I don't advocate any roles on my team anymore. I say no to otc when my teammates are lucky enough to land another job and quit. I keep my little bubble as peaceful as I can and try not to stick my head up anymore and be noticed. I am looking for a new job so I'm just waiting around to be laid off or get a new job. Which ever comes first. Protect your peace, set boundries and do your job. Best of luck and don't overwork for a job that wants to get rid of you

Not enough even with your overpriced degree. For employees with years to decades of time invested, starting over isn't an option. The only way to change d-mbash leaders is for all "ICs" to stand up as one and push back. How can this be done? With union representation. It's not feasible for all "ICs" to contact HR, file complaints, etc... In fact, only a few will follow through with any action at all, the rest of the sheep will typically do nothing and eventually quit. And HR, will do nothing with the complaints that are generated. Union representation will have direct connections with leadership and our voices will be heard. We can negotiate for better workloads, better pay, better benefits and better work life/home life balance just to name a few topics.

Look, it’s the perfect opportunity for us to stand as one. Dell moral is in the gutter and people are upset. Lets make this happen. Sign up https://www.joinifpte.org/tech

Yes, I feel this post. I have been mentally exhausted and physically impacted from all the stress at this company over the past couple years. My manager knows it, but there’s little he can do because up at the top they do what they will and there’s no consideration for the hard working people. I love my team. I love my job. I love my manager. The direction the company is going, the constant layoffs - I can’t do it anymore. I’m moving on- and although the grass is not always greener on the other side- their culture and reputation for treating employees like humans is spectacular. Sign me up.

I think we are all feeling this way.
Not knowing if we are next to go.
I think every region is different.
All you can do for now is do your job to the best of your ability and then you must switch off. This has gone on too long and it is affecting us mentally.
All the rumours don't help either.
I just feel like just do it already. Either keep me and appreciate me or let me go with a severance package so I can find something completely different to do.
We are all only numbers unfortunately.
Stay strong 💪 ✨️
