How Payrises work

FYI in a normal organisation you can get a pay rise this time of year and they sometimes backdate it so you get 8 months as one nice lump sum bonus. UK public sector is currently doing this.

My client currently pays €14000 a month and I get what exactly, they moan it costs a fortune my pay has gone backwards owing to greedy ceo mike and mike?, I'm over 50 but have only a few years left(I work in a team of 1 and am looking forward to giving my 4 weeks notice, knowing that DXC can't assign anyone with a suitable skills etc! This was caused by the client and not DXC

@2wtf+1vc70Ueg I don't grumble about my salary. I grumble about the fact the company is quite happy to pay new hires 20% more to do the same job. It costs an absolute fortune in DXC staff time, to bring those people up to speed. And double when people have no incentive to help. These new hires have of course realised what you say is right. Jump ship every year and you get a nice pay rise. Sod actually adding much value, it doesn't matter as you don't plan on being around to support it. So your code doesn't need to be commented, testable or practically even work. Because you won't be around before anyone notices.

: @2sca+1vc70Ueg I understand about being with the company for 20 years and to be over 50. But if you don’t at least try to find an employer that treats you the way you think you should be treated then you are part of the problem

Why should DXC pay you more money if you can’t find another job that would be stupid on their part.

DXC knows you are not worth more to anyone else, so you get what you get.

THINK before you complain

@2zaf+1vc70Ueg Why do you think quit or shut up and never ask for another rise is the answer. What is your motive: Sc--w DXC because you work for a competitor, or to get the team budget for yourself when all your colleagues leave and don't get replaced, or just an outside meddler? It's very hard to just walk away from a job you've had for 20 years, and do what exactly. Retire early! The UK market is not that keen on anyone over 50. You might get a temp job stacking shelves in Tesco on minimum wage.

The company has demonstrated my role is worth 20% more. So on the basis it doesn't want to pay me that. I shall be doing 20% less in future. I'm not being unprofessional, I'm just doing the hours the company pays for. And I'm mostly achieving that by cutting out all the pointless DXC bloat meetings. If they want more hours we can negotiate my base salary. In fact I'm being way more efficient and proving the real next step is a 4 day week and pay cut for everyone else.

You won't get any [useful] training in DXC. They don't want you to have the course certificate to allow you to move on. Only join DXC if you never intend to move on. TBF the salary is good. The problem is they will happily have a £15k+ pay gap for people doing the same job. And that gap isn't even aligned with quality of work. It's usually the opposite. People on the lower salaries actually try.

They will not give you rise on their own. Why the he-l would they do that when large amount of "loyal" workers would still work for them even with no pay rise. The current market reward those who reguraly change companies because they are forced to keep their skillset up to date with current trends and technologies.

I'm on a work to rule. I do my job. I mean MY job, not everyone else's. I have joined the do my ~7hrs a day, ~35hrs a week and that's all you will get. I see colleagues putting in bloated quotes to do the simplest of things and still missing the target, faffing about unsure what they are even trying to do. I cannot carry those people any more. I'm going to spend the extra 20hrs a week I've just got myself to get ready to move on, to learn something actually useful, or do something that pays a reward - even if that is just a thank you from a passing stranger. It's clear the company either doesn't notice, or doesn't value the extra they were getting - it's just taking me for a fool. They either won't notice I stopped, or will realise we've hit the end of the line.

@1xsu+1v81F90p your paid a salary to do your job

Incorrect.
Very incorrect.

You are paid a 5/10/15 year old salary to to the job of maybe 5 people (if 4 have been WFRd).

@ovy+1vc70Ueg I think most DXC staff will disagree with you. After basically forever when inflation has been running away with us. It doesn't take more than a year to not paid properly to do that job. The company does not care to compensate it's staff adequately. It therefore shouldn't expect its staff to care to do the job, certainly not to go above and beyond. As for quitting and going elsewhere that's totally down to the individual not you to dictate. Maybe they don't want to, maybe they have other reasons. But they still deserve the respect that they can do the job and that task is worth a fair wage for a fair days pay.

DXC's salary system sets staff against each other. You earn 30% more, yet are 50% less useful, why should I help you! I won't get any more money for helping or not helping - So I'm basically not even going to try. Management have no carrots to hand out. This is why DXC is in such a mess. Nobody is paid to care, so very few do. Yet it's a typical big corporate. It's near impossible to let people go who know how to play the game. You have to do something seriously wrong. Meanwhile anyone who joined in the last 2 years is not expected to stay beyond Christmas. The clients see it, and just don't put new work with DXC. We're only here to hold legacy until it's no longer required.

Normal companies put all their staff roles on a grade. You join typically at the bottom of the grade scale and every year of loyalty and additional business knowdlege you progress up the scale until you reach the top. It's fairly automatic, but subject to meeting your targets. Once you reach the top of the grade you'll only get an inflationary cost of living rise which is also automatic unless you are on a diseplinary. The advantage of this system is that everyone knows they are earning a comparible salary to colleagues doing the same job. It's clear what you need to do to get more money. It's all very fair.

The only pay rise you'll get from here is from your severance package!

How pay rises work at DXC: You get offered a salary when you agree to join. Only to find out that was total compenstation package. You will never get another rise, although you'll be told we're in a review period so knuckle down. This period will be kicked down the road by 3 months for at least 9 months. Eventually the company will tell you one of: You're well paid for the job you do; If you believe your worth more show us an offer from another company; or just simply we cannot afford it this year. This is repeated until either you leave, or you're so far behind the market that other companies question what's wrong with you. Meanwhile, out team cannot afford a pay rise as we just took on a load of staff on what the company says is above market rate just to get them to join. So the budgets been used up on them, sorry. I do hope these people are as good as DXC thinks, cos' I'm not inclined to be overly helpful.
