Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Beware the ides of November

Rumor has it something special is planned by our overlords as the chase the AI genie and move to final phase of their transformation. Mid-November. Tech will be hit hard, but I'm hearing this may go wider. Mostly high cost centers. MSP in the crosshairs.

Leave now if you can. If you want to stick around to play severance lottery look at their pattern of changing policies at the last minute. It's a possibility they will change the package. Make decisions best for you. Prepare now.

I wont respond with specifics. My sources are well placed.

I am afraid that they’re going to be bitten on the behind badly by putting all this emphasis onto AI. We have lost our way, we used to be about publishing and news but now we’re trying to transform ourselves into a tech company but it’s going to be a failure.

Customers are so upset right now with being nickeled and dimed, half of the sales team just moving money around to get paid, when is the house cards going to fall? Customers see that AI is finally going to let them cut the cord, and it won’t be us they keep.

Are the GMs and sales VPs in legal just good for a worthless shuffle of people and teams? I’ve seen them spin up and spin down the same iteration of growth teams, renewal teams, and sales teams. If they took the rest of the year off no one would notice. Let’s go!

lol, nobody in MSP built AI! Bowling alley buddies built a bad search that got worst with time. You then completely missed the AI boat with Precision and then had to buy yourself back with the Casetext acquisition. The ai bills are rising and need paid off. Customers may purchase but then usage is not there and they will drop the ai part. TR is heading towards a cliff. The monopoly is coming apart. Not sticky anymore without Elite or FindLaw.

@5lnz+1vbqyQtP If you believe the real expertise is only in architecture and technology, go architect another WestLaw without the tagging and headnotes done by all of us attorney editors.

Probably better to know what you’re talking about before giving all credit to only one part of what makes this place make money.

Lol. You clowns couldn’t match wits w any MSP architect regarding TR systems. Get a clue regarding where the real expertise lives. Westlaw generates so much revenue for TR it might be the reason you have a cushy job here that covers insurance for your family, and it was built and is supported by MSP. Not selling? You clearly don’t see revenue or NPS scores for the AI Assistants. Probably better to know what you’re talking about before disparaging an entire location.

Middle and middle upper management should be consolidated and reworked at this point. Most of the leaders that moved into role over the last year or two are terrible and know nothing about the businesses they manage. Culture vultures who have essentially ruined businesses, as they were just dropped into them and had nothing to do with them prior to taking the role. They add up numbers and tell you to sell more with no real plan or sense of reality, horrible in front of customers as well. Save us from the LETS GO emails and move some real leaders in.

@3ygw+1vbqyQtP Not entirely true. There was a "holding company to operating company" narrative which came out of CA. This has led to an astounding job of cost cutting "the way forward" to profitability.

Oh here comes November, and the survivalists at TR are nervous! Let’s be fair, No real work is done by people in MN. Not compared to other companies. TR is the perfect example of preparing all week for your 5 minute section of an hour long meeting on the Wed, having the meeting and spending the rest of the week recovering. MN staff are the epitome of this and the tech staff, the US based tech staff are the absolute worst. The architects the developers, minimal amount of work done in between trips to the bowling alley or clearing the snow from the drive.
TR survives off the work done by others, by the companies purchased that were built by others, and they are benefitting from a monopoly position. But….WL’s day is dawning and the AI bills are mounting. They are running out of companies to sell to prop up the balance sheet. The c-suite is running out of tricks. Lots of downsizing in November, as per usual. But likely more in 2025 as a result of cost control over the AI path that have spiralled. Products have to be profitable. You can only hide it for so long.
