Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

You’re stuck

Look around colleagues. Wherever you are right now, is where you’re going to be in 5 years. Paltry raises. Almost zero chance for promotion. Fewer and fewer roles, and more going overseas.

It’s like working at a big box store
Just before bankruptcy…depressing, low morale, dysfunction. And it ain’t getting better.

Think outside the box, start a steakhouse in Bangalore for all the fancy Chevron expats, perhaps work for a management consulting firm to write a case study about how excellent the workforce in India is because after all they can replace me, finally short the Chevron stock if you really think it's going to crash.

Speculation like this is not going to help anyone, especially those who are very stressed about losing their jobs.

We cannot control what's coming up. But at the minimal, we can help each other tide through this. My colleagues and I talked about updating resumes, taking up courses, job markets, etc. Concrete actions we can take. We catch up with people for lunch to see how each other is coping. We gossip, but all so for a good laugh. We all need that.

Luckily, I only got about five years to go so this works out just right for my retirement. It su-ks for anyone else that was hoping to be here for 20+ additional years.

Part of culture reset is staying in roles longer

One rumored aspect of the reorg will be new psg grades. They will collapse as follows:

18-21 becomes 20
22-24 is 21
25-27 is 22
28-29 is 23
30 is 24

Good luck!

Sure, for the Hipots. But have you seen the promotion structure? It’s a mandate to promote less. You think that’s going away? And you think those high psgs roles are staying? Or will just be filled by lower psgs that are never promoted (as is ACTIVELY happening now). Wake up.

They will get rid of many high psgs in the upcoming reorg, so this will open up new opportunities and some future promotions. With every ending os a new beginning for those who depart and the crew who are kept, is not all bleak if you survive the storm.

Maybe not your job, but certainly your station. Good luck going up a psg. They’ll let you lateral move until you’re hearts content. I’ve know several folks who have moved into roles with a higher psg range, and after 2 years they’re still not in the psg range for the role.

I don't think we're going to be stuck in our roles for that long but I did hear that the spring PDC is up in the air on whether it's even going to happen...
