Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Climate at Baytown

Can someone give a brief rundown about the work conditions, culture, and layoff status at BTEC. There’s a chance I’m making a move there, but I’ve never visited the site.

As @1gbh says, if you ‘re a FLS, SLS, or management and you can stand the stench of the refinery, it’s great! So many supervisors—one for three actual workers in some instances. Just check out CC, you’ll see. Keep your head down, manage a couple of people, and kiss some a** while you stuff your bank account. Oh, and don’t forget to pack your lunch because there’s no place to eat. Everything will be fine!

"The safety people watching you to hold the dirty handrails." Lol so true

They got to be some of the highest paid useless jobs in the world.

I have more respect for the effort and dignity of a Walmart greeter.

BTEC is the next Clinton. Don't go there. You'll be NSIed, PIPed and fired for no fault of your own. DO NOT GO THERE. The only safe places in Baytown are the plants. But BTEC is done. Darren's already replacing these guys with BTC guys. And don't forget the constant nauseous smell of chemicals, the rundown offices and hallways, and the terrible food in the cafeterias. Oh thanks god I ain't there anymore.

I enjoyed working at btec, spacious offices with doors that I can lock up. Won't move anywhere if given the choice.

Don' t forget about the run down town, food desert, pot holes, awful roads, and endless trains blocking the roads. The buildings are old and smell like mold. The safety people watching you to hold the dirty handrails. The security persons mentoring your every move and using a radar g-n to measure your speed. If you get so many tickets you will have to park out side the gate. Then there are the large bo--s waiting to explode. I mean product storage tanks all around you. Every restaurant that is close is Latin food how many days can you eat tacos. El toro every day is too much. If you want a decent meal or salad you have to drive at least 30 minutes each way. I love Mexican food by the way but everyday is too much. Look at the faces of the employees at BTEC do they look happy or scared to talk to you. I did not notice this until it was too late.

Currently, in Baytown, TX, it's highly dysfunctional with heavy nepotism and 100% chance of injustice. Light piping and heavy a-s kissing expected to last for the next 20 years or until the company folds. No chance of advancement and a toxic smell for eternity.

Yes visit and talk to the underlings not the supers and mangers. Talk to me I will tell you and show you. I will tell you the truth. Go off site and talk as they are watching my every move timing my conversation time and listening in on everything I say and do. I am on the watch list as I am a bad dog. You can find me by the huge target with bullseye on my back. Also there are exposed knives stick out from my back. If you can find me I can save you from this horrible place. I came to BTEC unknowing about the politics, nepotism, favoritism, injustice, supervisors and managers that were just out for their own advancement. About six months in In talked to a person who knew all the bad about BTEC. No one would talk to me as I was the new person outcast spy. Truth is power you have been warned. Visit on a Friday not so many eyes on me. I will find you. I always know the new ones as they are lost. DO NOT COME BEFORE YOU VISIT AND DO NOT AGREE TO COME UNTILL YOU CHECK IT OUT. I SAID MAYBE AND BEFORE I COULD SAY NO I WAS OFFICIALLY MOVED. THE SUPERVISOR MOVED ME IMEDIATLY I WAS MOVED IN A WEEK. THIS IS TRUE. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID AS I REGRETE IT.

Btec stinks literally and figuratively. The smell is awful. The culture su-ks as well. Lots of in fighting and people trying to move up.The person who defended the place must be related to another at btec. How many cocsys does it take to make a btec? Too many. The only ones who would defend btec are the ones who are in power. The ones who would hand out the zero raises and demand you work harder. So btec stinks unless your a supervisor or manager. Why would the defender mention disgruntled employees if the place is so good? Why are there disgruntled employees at such a great place like btec?

Be careful if going into a tight knit group and becoming the easiest guy to PIPbecause nobody in local management will know you/defend you.

I disagree it is bad here especially BTEC. The refinery, chem plant all bad. It is one of the worst places I have ever work at. The nepotism and favoritism is the worst. All the supervisors and managers care about is their advancement. Believe the posts about baytown. The management doesn't want the victims to know what they are getting into. Do not come to baytown.

Like any place there are good and bad. For the most part it is really a great place, most people are very friendly and helpful. Most managers actually care about employees, it’s true. Don’t believe any disgruntled people. It’s a small site and has a small site culture. People who complain have no clue how bad a site can be, ie campus or manufacturing.
