Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Realistic Layoff Timeline

Yall im just a new grad and don’t know much, so can someone with more seniority / connections help me understand the axing timeline? I’ve heard Chevron gives 3-6 month heads up if you’re impacted, but can’t help but feel like things will be different this time. Also for some of us who have leases expiring soon, it would help to have a sense. Do we think ~ Feb/March is when things will go down?

I hope Chevron follow Amazon's lead. Our middle management are usually process creators and paper pushers - let the individual contributor be accountable and reward "Deliver Results". Too many onsite contractors cannot be let go because out of a 10 member team, they are usually the one delivering. We need employees to deliver results like the onsite contractors and gut middle management.

I haven't been through a CVX layoff but 3-6m layoffs sounds crazy. I know I wouldn't want to work with a lame duck folks for that long. Quick is always better for everyone. You might even get extra month of pay if it meets WARN Act requirements.

Oddly, one of the managers in my team has been telling his reports he was informed his job is going away. I’m not sure what to make of it, since he’s wildly incompetent - but perhaps some folks are already being advised.

Chevron is chronically slow on any large layoff round. In all likelihood (and as others have mentioned), this round is likely already in motion, but probably more numbers than names at this point. 2020 was "lightning" fast, about a year from inception to action (and no, Covid has nothing to do with the speed). Part of that was it was designed to be a Boomer Purge rather than an across-the-board layoff. 2015/16 was glacially slow (so much so it became a running joke in the trenches), took about 18-20 months. Part of that may have had to do with tutoring wunderkind EB (and her dynamic personality) on the ins-and-outs of layoffs. Prediction for this round? Again, wheels are in motion, Hess-yes and Hess-no contingencies are already being considered, so expect this round to be concluded by September 2025.

Layoffs will coincide with 1H2025 PDC results. This is what has been decided behind closed doors but will be announced early next year. I am not sure why they are slow playing the announcement they already set but the number of NDAs are more than I am used to. This is the best I could do.

In past layoffs new hires with the company less than a year were not let go (that did not apply to experienced new hires however).

Difficult to say. Houston has to approve the new BU organisations and so far they seem to keep rejecting them for not being brutal enough. It’s going to be a sore one!

See the signs people. WFH basically ends for 26 and above Jun 1, so those "leaders" will be placed by Jun - and the rest will follow. We don't do anything fast, part of the culture reset that needs to happen lol. If most of the cuts are known, take a kn--e to them like any smaller more nimble company would do.

If I were a gambling person, mid to mid late 2025 (July or August), they have no incentive to go fast, helps hedge bet on Hess, also historically they are slow and love a good mid year (that way can evaluate you on 2025 performance) layoff

You should know by end of 1st quarter what the “plan” is. My best guess is for selections to happen in 1H. Best bet to go month to month lease until it’s done

The timeline will likely depend entirely on your BU or function. It does sound like they’re trying to move faster this time so there’s a chance you’ll know by then, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
