Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Federal Contracts

How can UHG/UHC/Optum get Federal accounts/funding and then outsource all the employees to India, Ireland or the Philippines. Trump was scolding John Deere for outsourcing but doesn’t say a word to Optum?

Constant offshoreing, including contracts that exclude it. Yes, they find a way around it. All the work is done off shore, but they have a US manager and a handful of people onshore to sign off on it and take credit, making it appear as a US maintained agreement. RIFs are a constant worry as a result of the offshoreing.

Additionally, when companies are bought by them, they’re given about 12-24 months and then there are consultants or “business analysts” brought in to review the financials and profitability. Once they do this, they cut that acquired company’s staff by 50% and sprinkle in some offshoreing (a RIF) in an effort to reduce costs, leaving that team or org in shambles.

If you're dealing with medicaid, some contracts have offshoring restrictions, some don't.

Feds definitely don't, when talking about Medicare and individual plans.

Some employer groups have that in their contracts, some don't.

Almost every call center does this at this point, if permitted, in and outside of healthcare, so it's not just a uhc thing.

Take it up with your elected officials.

Yeah, they try to say United healthcare is helping people move healthier lives by denying them the care that they need and forcing them to change their lives yet they don’t have the money to do so because it’s the middle class and the underserved that can’t afford to do anything for their health

If the American public really knew what was going on in the health insurance industry, they would flip. A full on investigation by somebody other than the feds needs to occur a panel that includes healthcare professionals that don’t have interest in government. There’s so much fraud going on. It’s not funny and it’s going on within the health insurance industry and they know it.

John Deere was moving manufacturing products, Optum and UHC offshore services. They don't count them as comparable

More like Irish PM’s, Indian IT, and Philipino customer service. All Optum employees. I never understood how UHC got around the healthcare and Medicaid rules with Optum employees working side by side of UHC employees.

I hate to tell you but all your data has been offshore for decades since all the big banks have all of it there. The horses have already run through the gate. Nobody cares about your health information unless you are a celebrity. Just because there is a law means nothing just words on paper. No consequences. You actually think your congressman represents you dream on. No $$$ you dont exist

The offshoring is very bizarre to me, considering the amount of personal data just the basic customer service rep has at their disposal. Why are my full medical records and personal data available to someone getting paid a pittance, while sitting in their kitchen with a laptop? A lot of these jobs won't even allow remote state side for data privacy reasons, and when they do, the telecommuting agreements demand a separate room with a lock to work in. Somehow I doubt India and the Phillipines are held to this standard.

This is 100% what is happening at Elevance/Anthem/Carelon etc! Moving to offshore in Philippines and India mostly. How does that happen with Medicaid. I am on a project that prohibits ANYTHING being offshore. How do we get on the next administration’s radar? 20 plus years and been through 3 RIFS, but made it back. No more! So many of us are just waiting as all around us massive RIFS are happening. Our town halls are full of praises to offshore!

I WISH this would get more attention right now. Twenty let go stateside from my team. Most long term, 20+ years, high performers, vocal, WOMEN. Replaced by 45 people in India who make, as I’ve heard it, $500/month. The goal is to have 70% of the work handled “globally”. They don’t say “ offshore” anymore as if they think they are fooling anyone.
