If you're just starting out at Chevron, you need to learn right away that office politics run the show. Forget meritocracy - it’s been out the window for ages. If you want your career to take off, you have to learn the art of playing the game. That’s the only way to climb the ladder fast.

This is why Chevron is not “winning”. People who are good at playing the game and become leaders don’t have any actual skills and the people with skills who can help Chevron win are effectively silenced.
I’ve done pretty well playing by my own rules.
Try junior high where the participation points are recorded in a PowerBI that claims in person attendance will NOT be used as a performance indicator except someone forgot to tell the principal.
Sounds like high school
Hear “play by the rules” a lot. New employee…what are the rules?
Can confirm.
Merit is a joke. 2+, even 3+ exceeds expectations in a high visibility role doesn’t mean anything. Overwhelmingly positive 360 feedback? Who cares.
This is the best way to ruin a good employee. But rather than allow myself be su-ked into the coffee badging culture and being a low morale type of person, I chose to leave rather than be a burden to the amazing peers I had the opportunity to work with.
