Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Got a contract role in HIL team, should I join?

I am still debating if I should join Ford as a HIL engineer and it is a contract role. I have another contract role in Caterpillar. Please advise, what should I do? All I see is everyone predicting layoffs.

:No, wait for offer from Brackets...."

Are you serious!? I'd take Ford Credit over Brackets any day! Nothing but opportunity and green grass!

No, wait for offer from Brackets team. Apparently that's the best team to work for. JF told us sometime ago.

Ford should not hire any new or contract employees without proper qualifications.

There was a time when I really enjoyed working at Ford, but I would not recommend it right now if you have other options. Congrats on the offers, it's a tough time to find engineering jobs.

Ford HIL is the highest turn over rate. They hire on contract when program is critical and let go people when things slow down. If you are considering to ever convert to full time then stay away from hil is you have options otherwise join in and keep looking for a better job

If it is for a contract job in engineering, don't even consider it. Ford churns and burns through their contact engineering. You likely got the offer due to the contract engineers they just walked out the door. Also, they very rarely convert contract over to direct employees, so don't think it is a way in.

Yep, stay away from Ford because once you get to 50 they want out the door.

I wouldn’t go with Ford right now. It doesn’t seem to be very stable.

If this tells you anything...there were a group of Ford engineers years ago I knew that left Ford to go to CAT, back even when Ford was in good shape during the Mulally years. And you want to go to Ford, and now under the current regime?!?

Ford's preference seems to be contract at the moment. I don't even know why they have any direct rec's open at all. That they are hiring direct for any non management position really makes little sense given the current climate. if you are looking for a decent gig for a likely only a year, it's probably ok. Like others have posted, CAT is the more stable and reliable company by a wide margin at this point no matter where you might land within Ford.

Stay with CAT. Much more reliable than Ford. Just no contest. You do you, but in general I see CAT as a better long term and dependable company. Cannot say anything for management at CAT but Ford...well just read the threads here.
