you can get cl27 by age 34 if you are outstanding always per the guide. But we all know its impossible with the current system unless you are sponsored and have a VP who thinks you remind them of their youth or their own kids. Its really that stupid, but true.

There is also exception for supervisors and managers promotions, the adv guide doesnt apply to them — so go figure why the system is so unfair and why you constantly get invompetent managers who think they are competent.

So basically 90% of employees suffer through an unreasonable advancement guide. Managers/supervisors and those who have sponsors, like the Planning mafia, get promoted at will and desire if older incompetent ‘leaders’

No matter what guidelines or rules exist, HiPos will be treated differently.

Recently a HiPo with absolute zero experience in my discipline was given a high position in my discipline. I asked how this is possible with the established professional ladder to achieve that position. I was told that she was a HiPo and that a President had “given” the position to his favorite HiPo. All guidelines and rules broken for favoritism, which is normal at EM.

The advancement guides are specific to certain job categories. Engineers will be different to geologists different to commercial. This holds true across the three salary “curves”: A (generally upstream), B (downstream, chemical, IT), and C (generally Controllers, HR).

28’s are advanced up to 29 when there is a need for PIP headcount in the 29’s. Above 29 not typical to PIP, just intimidated to retire or offered a deal to retire.

Got to protect those with Sponsors. Got to have lots of RG zeroes to get points for the HiPos at 80 plus, and still average close to 50.

Planning gets to average just over 60 but that means SSH&E has to average just under 40.
