Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

That is why RM was fired .... Culture

I really believe MW words about the need to change in culture and I think they are serious about it. Unfortunately, it took too many losses and even fatalities to come to this conclusion. The DEI only helped three categories, white women, black women and men who were MARC'd. I heard and encountered horror stories on how the women in HR have treated men of any color who showed the very little bit of dissatisfaction of the service they provide as a function. I asked for one thing that my female colleague asked for, she got accepted, I got denied and after a big run around and few complaints, I got the same treatment. Only for this HR woman to hold grudges against me. These are the women that RM put and gave them too much power. They abused this power badly.
On the other hand, another colleague of mine who attended every single women network event and did absolutely nothing meaningful got triple promoted and another expat assignment with the help if women in FE leadership. I did my work and I exceeded expectations and actually saved the company millions. I was treated unfairly and I had to go through hoops just to get the same treatment as others. Chevron was not like this before RM.
DEI is not bad if applied fairly but this was on the goal on her toxic agenda.
I am very positive about Michelle and I am glad that RM was fired.

You guys literally have absolutely nothing to do for most of the day and you wonder why there are layoffs. This is priceless.

How much interaction are you having with HR and why? As a worker bee who doesn't work directly with HR, your interactions should be minimal at best. To me, unless you're requesting accommodation for something medical or confirming something to do with benefits, it's a red flag to have an employee in so much contact with HR.

If you’re a Jewish man being interviewed by a Jewish woman that’s great luck. If you’re a black man being interviewed by a black woman…good luck.

There is something unique about white men and black women in the workplace.
An internal need to be validated which is why black women feel more comfortable challenging a black man in a meeting.

Over the years I’ve learned to not only manage this situation, but have found clever ways to n-p any unprofessional bias in the bud. I would always support my team and those who look like me, but being more prepared than anyone else can quickly deflect any games some people play. Comes with the territory.

Another game is the hiring of weaker black men vs those whom may threaten the HR status quo. Someone who can block the shot of the so called rising star. We know what that game script long before the 1st quarter.

All to say if RM was fired, it probably has nothing to do with DEI policy as the definition becomes an ambiguous rabbit hole with infinite variables depending on the audience.

And why should she quit, corporate execs don’t get fired, they buy a boat. Plus we’re not guaranteed tomorrow. Good for her! No one today puts in those type of years, except LeBron James. Most of you can’t hang with that group! And that’s ok. A word of departing wisdom or opinion…

“All companies remain similar in their dysfunctional interpretation of DEI, yet those who have figured it out are unique in they know how to leverage this cultural advantage”

I appreciate what the BOD did. It was not easy to fire a DEI VP of HR. But also it took so long. I know they call it retirement to save her face and fragile ego but everyone knows.

There are other things that need to change. Will they also take the same time to make these changes despite the impact of delaying critical changes?

RM wasn’t fired. Not even close. Just hope this new LT keeps close to those below them. They need to stay close to how it really is, not lose touch.

People are focusing on RM and forget a key part of the OP

He saved the company millions and exceeded expectations. From is words he seems to be an FE. All of this and an HR person thought less of him just because of his gender and he was neither marked or designated a FL.

HR was the reason to demotivate a good talent
HR thinks they run and oil company and not only make the rules but also pick winners and loser
HR is having this much leverage and influence in an Oil company

This why we are losing in any environment (even when oil was at 100$).

This blows my mind as it does not take a PSG 28 to figure this sh-t.

I am glad they fired RM. This incompetent useless racist and s-xist person was a disaster so I agree with OP

Still, I am not sure about MG. I have not seen anything positive or negative form her to make up my mind. But if she was groomed in the same way, why would she be any different? We just have to wait and see

Black and female here and I can confirm, DEI definitely IS the problem. It causes way more problems than it solves. Get rid of it already.

Don't feel bad from RM, 33 years, I'm sure she has a nice golden parachute whether she was fired or retired

You’re right, not just about gender. It’s just a watchpoint I would say. Wiping out all of one thing is interesting even if intent is not on purpose.

I hope it’s not signal of favoritism. It’s noticeable since HR is different from most other functions (majority of HR is already female). You’d think they’d walk the talk and ensure male representation and other representation (because I agree, it’s not just about gender).

Re last comment

We had a man I'm charge of HR at CBU and he was a disaster. No backbone, no brain and he made so many bad decisions.

It is not about men or women. It is about selecting the right people

I am glad AI will get rid of most of these jobs. At least it will be unbiased when to comes to interpretation of policies.

If Michelle want to have any chance of success, she should fire ar least 90% of HR in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. And get new blood. Otherwise, this culture will not change.

Ok, a “little” worrisome that the HRLT wiped all men from it basically. Also, notice it’s all women put on anything related to special projects for HR? Interesting.

She was am ill choice from the beginning.

We are all glad that she was fired despite the fact they call it " retirement" not to hurt her fragile ego.
