Has anyone seriously started to explore the job market? Appreciate sharing your experiences, type of role you applying/ industry and locations. Also mention current PsG and the type of $$ they are seeing external. How many interviews vs # of positions applied ? And how many interviews vs # of offers received? Please keep the thread fact based

It's strong, I get job offers and recruiters calling all the time. Have options if they axe me, but I've always been left standing. Salary comparable, the pension is the kicker and is what keeps me. Most offer bonuses but not guaranteed, not that they are here but rarely will you get nothing and in other places it's a toss up. Most other places won't give you months or even year + of "torture" waiting for a re-org, they just axe you from one day to the next (and we are not used to that) lol
In IT, it isn’t as bad as people/the news make it seem. I recommend you start as soon as possible though (I.e. now). It will take time, but you’ll find something and chances are it will be a much better opportunity than cvx.
A few years ago, i tested the waters and
almost left CVX for a software company close to our HQ - the pension made me stay even w RSUs. I dont think its hard as long as u have skills and attitude.
probably a bit harder if CVX is the only company you worked for.
For those that left in last few months, what motivated you to leave prior to getting cip at minimum if not cip plus serv pckg?
Horrendous. Especially if you’re an IT Engineering role looking to get out of O&G and have less than 5 YOE.
What about PetroTech ? Is it easy to find positions at other companies in Houston area ?
I applied to a few companies. I started my new job less than 2 months after I started looking.
I took an ~8k pay cut on salary but was given generous sign in equity in a thriving company. I have to go in five days a week working ~50 hours a week (can probably guess by reputation), but I am growing my skillset tremendously.
Its tough to find same or higher pay than Chevron if you’re looking for a hybrid or remote schedule, but those on site jobs have less competition.
I would leave if I were you. No regrets here. And happy not to have to wonder if I’ll have a job for another year again.
A helpful tip from someone who has jumped ship recently:
Job market is above average depending on what is your transferable skill sets. Oil patch is in a rough spot but other areas of the market is hiring well. Be aware of the issues with various hiring aspects, e.g. if you have too much experience it may not be seen as positive. Many TX companies have moved away from DEI concepts this year. One may face some head wind if one is too (fill out the blanks). So apply accordingly.
