Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

I’m overworked out of my mind

Nobody is even paying attention to the fact that some teams have been reduced to skeleton crews. We’ve been losing people left and right through layoffs and quitting, and all that ever changes is that more work falls on the rest of us. My team got to the point where workload with what small number of people we have been left with simply can not be done.

Do enough to have something worthwhile to put on your resume. Doing more than that is incredibly delusional - management will not appreciate if you go the extra mile. I know because I did go the extra mile and was RIF'd anyhow. Thankfully I had a good resume and just recently got a job offer. I'm not saying to slack off but working extra hours makes zero sense.

At this point, I’d rather work as a circus clown in a circus, work in the zoo and feed the lions and giraffes, etc. I’ve worked at this place for almost 11 years. It wasn’t like this before when I started. Things have changed for the worse.

@3tbt: I’ve found that most of those doing these things aren’t doing it to look good, but as I’ve noticed recently, they were good employees that have had enough of the stress, and are planning on an exit. Either on their own or a potential upcoming RIF. They don’t want the next person who gets the work dumped on them to have to reinvent the processes and don’t want the members to get stuck.
I wish them luck. They’re the ones we should be keeping, yet we push them out the door.

I love how people on various teams have to go above and beyond their pay grade and job description like taking it on themselves to write full on operational guides, how tos, training manuals, brand guides, spread sheets etc. Things the company should be supplying and giving to new hires and teams. But I have seen multiple people doing this along with their already heavy work load just to secure their place and security and look good to management.

Seems exhausting to me trying to be the best student in the class.

You're a fool if you go above and beyond even . 05% for this organization as they don't care about you. 005%.

Don't do the extra. If you're going to get laid off it's going to happen whether or not you put in the extra time. Your manager and their leaders (especialy) have no dedication to you. They will use you until you are no longer useful to them. Take self-care into your own hands and let them be the ones who fail.

Set reasonable and realistic boundaries! What are they going to do? Fire you if you don't do an unreasonable amount of work? Newsflash: if they want to get rid of you they will and it won't matter how hard you have been working or not. Work what is realistic and reasonable and document your accomplishments.

If you are onshore and not in a leadership role, no one is safe. Not until they bring jobs back to the US.

No doubt. I was doing the work of 2.5 people when I was Rif'd last month. I thought the fact that I had taken on extra work from other Rif'd and resigned employees made me safe... how wrong I was. Good Luck.
