I was interviewed here - nailed it but am a little older. They went with someone younger. 100% ageism.

  1. There were 2 in my 9 person department that got laid off. We made the most money and had the highest tenure. Funny thing as soon as we were gone due to reduction in workforce 2 people with less tenure got promoted. Go figure!

I don't think they care. If they get fined, they will lay off more to cover the expense.

If you were over 40 years old in the USA-you are considered a "protected class" person. If there are multiple people that have been laid off/made redundant that fit this criteria and were not on any other PIP, etc. there could be a cause for a lawsuit based on age.

While age is only 1 factor, if you can prove collectively, that due to salary+tenure+age you were let go, there might be an actionable lawsuit that could take place based on this factor. I would suggest as an individual that you fall within this category to look up an employment law lawyer in your area. they can provide details re: what is needed for proof on this and can assist. Most of these lawyers work based on getting a % of the final lawsuit only.
My mom went through a similar situation years ago at a company with 4 other individuals that teamed up and they each were able to receive 1 years salary (before lawyer fees) due to wrongful termination based on age discrimination.

I am happy I do not work for this company any longer.

i dont think its age but your tenure and pay rate. if you been with the company 20 years and make the most $$ then your a target. For me i been here a long time yet make less than a new hire so i am probably safe.

Yes 58-63. Ageism is at play, but there is not much you can do about it, unless they stated it.
