OK so this contract win is for the Link 16 MIDS/JTRS business that they bought from ViaSat a couple years back. As someone else noted, sometimes these IDIQ contracts are more smoke than fire, but for a product like this they will probably get a good portion of the contract value.
No idea where this business was based when it was ViaSat but you can bet it will be moving to Florida soon.
The other bad news is that this will make the Kube look like a genius for buying Link 16 which has been a bit of a disaster up til now
ID/IQ contact win is nothing to be excited about.
That's a contract ceiling, not actual value of the contract delivery orders. It looks like a large win, but it's just a contractual way to funnel tasks. In theory the value could be zero. Likely, 100M over the life of the effort.
Before the celebrating can begin, consider that this article is an advertisement for clearancejobs.com. Open positions for L3 Harris in Florida and Texas are replacing laid off employees with lower paid people. It is a common practice with L3 Harris. The truth is, the outlook for a long-term employment with this company is bleak. Even as profits increase, and contracts are made, the company does not make itself a good place for people with long-term plans. If you're hired for one of these positions, or any position for that matter, the best you can hope for with L3 Harris is 5 years. After that, you were will have priced yourself out and will either be pressured into leaving or just plain laid off. If you're in doubt, reach out to any long-term employee and ask them what they have seen in recent years. This is not hyperbole. If you're single, no kids, and like to travel light, L3 Harris is the place for you if you have short-term plans to make a little money. But, if you've got a family and a home and plans for the future, this company is definitely not for you.
