Navigating Change in Healthcare: Anthem’s Plans for 2025

As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, Anthem is preparing for significant organizational changes in the coming year. Leaders across the organization have been tasked with making difficult decisions to align with market realities, including consolidations and workforce adjustments. Here's what we know:

Layoffs Scheduled:Three rounds of layoffs are expected in 2025 beginning in January, followed by mid-year (summer), and winter. People leaders in GBD, Commercial, and other impacted divisions have been asked to provide input on these changes.

Position Consolidations and Promotions:While some roles will be consolidated, others will see promotional opportunities as Anthem continues to realign resources for operational efficiency.

Slowdown in Acquisitions:2025 is expected to be one of the slowest years for acquisitions, driven by Medicaid contract losses in several states.

Impact on Medicaid in Blue States: With a new administration in place, we anticipate a heavier impact on Medicaid contracts in traditionally blue states, further influencing organizational restructuring.

Change is never easy, especially in an industry like healthcare where stability and innovation are equally critical. For those impacted, Anthem’s leadership has committed to providing support, resources, and clear communication throughout this transition.

As we navigate these shifts together, it's important to focus on our shared mission: improving the health of humanity. These adjustments, while challenging, are part of a larger effort to adapt to the realities of our industry while ensuring Anthem remains a leader in the healthcare space

You cant say you offer redeployment if there is a hiring freeze- so to look good to the outside world they are saying they have plans in place to offer severance (which su-ks) and redeployment. ITs all a game! they think we are stupid!!!!!
If they are going to pull these cheap tricks they should communicate their actions between each other- they cant even get that right- and these are the people deciding on our health.....hmmm

Regardless of whether the post is real or not, changes are coming. In my area, onshore associates are being “shadowed” by offshore folks to explain their duties. We’re not stupid. It’s their plan to move and eliminate more jobs . Basically leaving a skeleton crew of managers and Leads. You aren’t valued or needed.

@jbi+1vOVuFyQ Elevance Health has 3 divisions: Anthem (Blue states), Wellpoint (other states where we can't offer Blue plans), and Carelon. Given the reference to GBD and Commercial, I think this is referring specifically to the health benefits sides of the house.

The decrease in all the healthcare stocks cannot be from redeterminations. Why is everyone down and it looks like will continue to be down next year?

This sounds fishy/made up. Like why is the email referring to Anthem as opposed to Elevance? Anthem is the brand for commercial and Amerigroup for Medicaid. If a communication went out specific to Anthem branded business then it wouldn't be addressing Medicaid, which is Amerigroup branded. To the OP we have enough stress in our lives without people posting made up stuff.

I was asked to provide names already. In addition, the hiring freeze has been lifted and will be brought back in the second quarter of 2025. The expectation is that there will be massive cuts in premium from the new administration for key blu state.
