Thread regarding L3Harris Technologies layoffs

Any truth to the rumors in clifton?

We are hearing of new contracts benefiting other locations like Florida and texas. But, there are rumblings of more layoffs hitting Clifton New Jersey just before or shortly after the holidays. Anybody have any insight?

  1. 5% is the budget for department, NOT the employee max merit. 3.4% will be very high.

With the pay increases this year topped at 2.5%, and many people getting less, it's clear that L3Harris wants people to leave on their own rather than lay them off. Be honest, if you get less that 2%, you may not be getting fired, you've certainly been handed your coat and hat.
But here in Clifton, many won't take the hint because most of the people with any talent have already left. The only ones left are those "Didn't Earn It" employees with no place else to go. And the company is now under no obligation to promote them or even keep them on. It's going to get very lean around here in the coming months.

A senior person walked out a few days ago. But we're not supposed to talk about it.

There's been an uneasy feeling leading up to the holiday shutdown. We know SAS is in big trouble and the feeling is there will be a big "correction" in the number of operations personnel beginning in the new year. After the union saw some layoffs back on April, the feeling is there are just too many "engineers" with nothing to do. Some of them even doing union work.
That will stop very soon.

The DOGE is going to be looking closely at bloated, top-heavy companies
like L3harris. The company will be trimming down as much as it can to avoid
DOGE scrutiny

Whatever DOGE ends up being, it will not be looking at contractors. It will, however, almost certainly look at big programs and demand they be either reduced or eliminated. That in turn will impact contractors.

We'll see what actually ends up happening. I support the idea of DOGE but I don't think they will be able to change very much.

We began building Viper Shield in Clifton just a short while ago. It will mean steady work on that system for a year and a half at least. We are even filling recently vacated union positions. But, the loss of ADVEW is huge and unexpected. It doesn't look like any more union layoffs are in the short term future, but the long term plans for the facility itself seem gloomy. Even the new digital F-16 EW work like Viper Shield is being duplicated in Florida while we do the work in Clifton. I guess the best advice is: We're stable for now but don't make long term plans. The DOGE is going to be looking closely at bloated, top-heavy companies like L3harris. The company will be trimming down as much as it can to avoid DOGE scrutiny and everyone from the top down is in pucker mode.

They've been kicking rumors around about Clifton ever since the most recent merger in 2019. We were ITT. Then ITT Exelis. Then just Exelis. Then Harris. And now, L3Harris. This all happened in 7 years! And during that time, we all did the same jobs, in the same building for the same pay. But the signage and the stationary changed 5 times.

But, the last merger was different. Benefits were cut. Salaries reduced. Most ancillary services were outsourced. Knowledgeable leadership was replaced by unqualified people from outside the aerospace industry. That last one was the beginning of the end. But worst of all, vetting new hires was abandoned in favor of identity hiring. It's not hyperbole, it's real and it is all bad. This time, we really think Clifton is too far gone to get any better. This 1 million square foot building will be sold for over 30 million dollars when the time comes.

Actually, it is spelled ADVEW and it stood for Advanced Electronic Warfare and it was for the F/A 18 Hornet and Super Hornet. Including the AN/ALQ-214 jammer (or IDECM).
If L3Harris loses the rest of IDECM, you can poke Clifton with a fork.
The only other large program to keep them going would be AIDEWS, and that ain't enough to keep the lights on.

ADVUE was in the works for a long time. People were hired and trained for it. It doesn't look like there is much for them to do now.

IDIQ ceiling isn't the same as bookings. It's just a contractual vehicle, not to be taken as a huge revenue boost.

In November 2024, the Navy awarded L3Harris a 5 year IDIQ contract worth $999 million for MIDS and JTRS.
The company will be consolidating work on those contracts from other value centers to Florida to better streamline operations.
Chris K. made a promise to R. DeSantis to bring more jobs to Florida in exchange for tax incentives.
An old promise interrupted by the pandemic is made new again.
