Thread regarding Ford layoffs

You know why there is nothing positive posted here; its because this company is TRASH

Lets all be honest with ourselves; we are here because either

  1. we are too incompetent/ incapable and don't have any other career options
  2. we took this job out of desperation and are trying to find something respectable

Everyone decent or with 2 brain cells is looking outside; the titanic is sinking. Morale is at all time low, meetings take weeks to schedule and everyone is generally checked out.

Stock price is in the gutter; I short the stock every time there is a pump and will continue to do so knowing how badly its going internally

As someone who is relieved to have left Ford, I can honestly say the problem is everything is a checkbox exercise. Anything that sounds good in theory is completely warped beyond recognition during execution. Every training session with HR devolves into the same unaddressed complaints (to the point where they would have to shut down questions).

Theory: We should reward those who perform well, so they are motivated to continue to perform at a high level. We should provide negative feedback to those who need improvement, so they have the opportunity to correct and improve.

Execution: We need to ensure that 40% of our employees are rated below expectations (even if they didn't do anything wrong). Because it is quota-based, even if there were something to correct/improve, it would not matter as it would require someone else to be bumped down. To add insult to injury, none of this even matters because at the end of the day, employee ratings will be told to you by someone higher up, and those ratings are already pre-determined ahead of time. It's all song and dance, and I'm surprised there wasn't a class action lawsuit over wrongful termination, constructive discharge, discrimination, or some such. There's so much to go after; just subpoena internal communications on anything connected to the review/calibration process.

For a company already in trouble with alleged securities fraud, it was appalling to see such willful negligence/incompetence (at best), if not malicious intent to drive attrition and save on severance packages/unemployment.

Anything this company is aspirated with goes to sh-t. Have you tried to deal with via benefits. What a joke.

“ launch went kind of ok”

It was a launch that should not have happened. Chairman bill needs to go.

birdbrain Farley blamed engineers for trying to ki-l the program publicly on a podcast

@qfq+1vM7v9FB design thinking furniture guy was the big indicator that all is not right with Mr Ford. which of course led to the current predicament. he needs to get out more and talk to more people outside the auto industry who aren't just yes men to him. lighting was an important launch but the launch went kind of ok, all things considered. it's sales that are bad. don't be proud, start making stripped down Pony editions of MachE and Lightning that people can afford. the Model T way, less costly every year.

"I took the skills I learned and am making a career outside of automotive."

This is the way. Good on you for getting out. Consider yourself ahead of the curve since most everyone with any HTHD skills should be jumping ship right now. Things don't look good and there is very little communication about pretty much anything. Just finger pointing and people trying to find ways to throw people under the bus for things not being ready.

HTHD is nomenclature used to make an employee feel special, nothing more. I was an HTHD and laid off in Jine 2023. I took the skills I learned and am making a career outside of automotive.

However, I think the silicon valley people are tarnishing automotive not the other way around. A car to them is little more than a phone that can be used to wring more money out of the consumer via OTA. They are one of the worst things to happen to the industry.

HTHD careers at a legacy automaker are short sighted. If you are there for the money, fine. Ring as much out as you can but don't fail to plan long term. Build your skills set, network and prepare to move on. Legacy auto is where silicon valley execs go to tarnish thier careers. Got a dime for everyone who thought they could turn things around in Legacy auto? Just look at the recent DF / JF lovers spat at the fireside chat. Keep your eye on the ball and get ready to move on. 2025 will be a volatile year and if you are smart you'll consider what your options are outside of Legacy auto a year from now. Don't waste your career staying any longer. Let them hire LCC employees who are pushy yes people and have no clue.

"Speak for yourself. At Model e we have capable leadership, and a bright future with much growth."

There's stupid, and then there's criminally stupid. This is what we have here.

Speak for yourself. At Model e we have capable leadership, and a bright future with much growth.

Get out of legacy areas of Ford (Blue. Pro, etc).

Why not moving on and finding another job, thus stopping suffering in Ford?

Root course of the company disintegrating is BF. He is Letting clowns destroy a once iconic company. Only reason all the nonsense is happening in the company is because he is allowing it to happen. What a shame to see this once grate company being destroyed.
