Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

I’m so ashamed to work for Elevance

I don’t believe we help or support our members. We run meeting to meeting using Elevance slang that nobody understands as our software is severely outdated. A dash of AI that will fix it wait there is no budget…ok so Gail throws a crumb and says bring moral up so some centers received cookies…you got to be kidding me. Gail and all leadership should ditch the fake newsletters and holiday feel goods it’s not helping. Let’s look forward to 2025…why? Cr-ppy raises, more layoffs, and asked to do more for less. There is nothing to look forward too. This company is not only a career ender but also a soul su-king abyss. Staff VP’s no we aren’t not looking forward to your quarterly meeting to fake clap and listen to fluff…you aren’t telling us anything we don’t know as we give you in the information.

If anyone asks me who I work for, I just say I work in the medical services space. :) No need putting a target on my back unnecessarily just because this company is run by a bunch of greedy id--ts!!!

Wellpoint ran their Medicaid business like their commercial business and were unsuccessful. They bought Amerigroup for their Medicaid expertise. We at Amerigroup had issues but nothing like Wellpoint. We were profitable and knew how to run Medicaid business. When we were bought, we were told that they did not want us to conform to Wellpoint processes. We were to bring our processes and implement them into Wellpoint. After trying for a couple of years and getting nothing but pushback, we were told to conform to Wellpoint's processes and a lot of our good workers ended up leaving out of frustration. With getting bought out and worried about losing our jobs unless did what we were told we moved forward with trying to implement Amerigroup processes into Wellpoint but were unsuccessful. And we have been seeing the result of doing the same thing but expecting a different result. EH keeps losing Medicaid business.

Junk company with terrible leaders. Useless Staff VPs and VPs. Too many Staff VPs, sr directors and middle management filling their own pockets and posting on LinkedIn with fake titles as though they know technology. Cr-ppy culture and cr-ppy C suite
No vision. Just want to grow upwards and care less about the hardworking associates’ growth.

Amerigroup was going great before being bought by WellPoint. Since then all Gail can do is buy membership under her leadership she has run Amerigroup reputation into the dirt. We haven’t won a contract in our own in long time and just lost Georgia (one of the longest AGP contracts).

Former Amerigroup here. Very very sorry you feel this. Medicaid is rough these days with gutted plans, poor leaders, corporate ‘efficiencies’, and tighter margins all around. Please recall though, Amerigroup was profitable and able to run ops without paying fines that good ol’ WellPoint was budgeting for in their annual budgets. Like many acquisitions we were told that we ‘were doing it right’ and to keep our way (that’s the reason we were bought, right?). But less than two years later the honeymoon ended and we were told to fall in line with the WellPoint ‘standards’ - no integration, no strategy, knee-jerk keeping up with so-called industry leads. Misguided short cuts…Wave? Ha. Fast forward? Ha. Digital first? Ha. Operational and excellence? Please… Does anyone have organizational memory to hold these misguided leaders accountable?

Only so much before it all fell apart and looks oddly like where it all began. Now, like most everywhere else in Elevance, the patch work shows its age. Technical debt abounds. All the contractors and offshore cost cutting measures left us with a disjointed mess that corporate or anyone new barely knows how to handle. I have found that former anythings acts like a-holes largely because they’re tired to trying to keep sense of the spaghetti strings of how we half-assed things. This perspective doesn’t fix things but when I discovered that Amerigroup was just another in a long line of parasitic acquisitions, I let up on my own anger. I am tired of going to work angry and have found a much better place with empathy.

Amerigroup leaders were so arrogant and demanding that their way was the only right way to do things. Most had an attitude as if THEY were the ones who bought Anthem rather than the other way around.

It is a shameful company! Not only care nothing for members but the staff are treated like garbage! No “thank you for your service” after you’re laid off , you’re just treated like you have the plague until your last day.. how nice! The “leadership “ here should be very ashamed but they care not because they have their golden paychecks. Horrible, horrible company

This is so true- there used to be some prestige/honor in being a high-quality company- we've just slipped ever since we acquired Amerigroup to their level instead of them rising to ours.

Elevance Health is no where near the caliber of a BCBS company. Elevance Health is just aniother version of Amerigroup.
