What is happening to our once great industry? The incompetence is out of control. I love our industry but have about had it. The quality of the EPC contractors and suppliers is terrible. I feel like I am living in the movie Idiocracy!

The reason to hire a lot EPC is not cheapest way according to the cr-ppy consultants, it is the way that the incompetent of your boss can keep his position because he fears that another engineer can replace his/her position according to knowledge.

Sorry to tell you this OP, but the people making the decisions in your industry have always been incompetent. They’ve always had (and still have) a hugely overblown sense of their business and technical expertise, and relied on an unsustainable combination of luck and bluster to get their preferred results.
Now the luck has run out and investors don’t buy the bluster. That’s why you see all of your bosses cutting costs and chasing public subsidies. If you can’t deal with this then O&G might not be for you.

It is all about the money and the cheapest route. Quality doesn't matter just cheap results.
I'm a lab tech in Clinton and have been overwhelmed with the level of incompetence by PhD's here lately. It's like others have been doing their work for them all along--techs and/or other PhD's--and now there's no one left to cover for them.
