Frequent layoffs, firing, bullying, understaffing add to the chaos of working at MetLife. Culture is terrible. Management does not care about employees. We have no budget …

2026 - Mandatory overtime of 8-10 hours per week since July 2025. Not enough people to do the work. Management are in meetings all day long and are generally unavailable. Horrific stress; people filing disability/FMLA claims left and right. Cancelled meetings with individuals and teams, but management sure keeps having their meetings! All......day......long.

One AVP surfs the net all day for clothes and their next vacation, in addition to checking their personal X account every few minutes. Money well spent. Bravo, MetLife, bravo.

Chaos is the norm. Leaders sniping at each other also is a norm. Is everyone miserable? Just Legal?

It's important to view MetLife as a paycheck and just that. Have a true purpose outside of this sc-mmy place. It will give you peace of mind and keep you going on what truly matters. To focus your energy on the mess that is MetLife, in the hopes that some day, the management and the culture will get better, is a losing battle and robs you of joy. MetLife is not a high performance organization and never will be under the current leadership. It's not worth their attempt at psychological warfare impacting your mental health.

"MetLife chaos is the norm. MetLife normal is to lie about what people managers are doing. They lie to their SVPs. They lie to HR. They lie during litigation. My people manager has never discussed my annual performance with me. Never talked with me about my raise and bonus. She did not send me the written performance document in the first year. I have never seen it. My department has not had any goals until Q3 for several years."

And yet my voice results indicate things are just peachy.

You forgot:

  1. Retaliatory terminations (under the guide of positions being eliminated) for reporting bad management to Employee Relations. Said bad management go on to be promoted.

"Encouraged Retirements" - that's putting it lightly.

The MetLife reductions that I see are either:

  1. Job moved to lower cost center or
  2. Encouraged retirements.
  3. Performance issues (rare).

MetLife layoffs happen every single quarter, under the radar, in very small increments to avoid filing a WARN notice. Has nothing to do with stock price. The layoffs are discreet and the impacted employees are told not to discuss the true details with their coworkers/stakeholders. It's a sleazy underhanded company all the way around.

Yeah the AVPs and above all stink, and are not held accountable for absolutely anything. Where are their development plans, coaching, 2+2+1 and the rest of the BS nonsense that holds the rest of us back from ever advancing? MetLife loves throwing money down the drain by keeping these losers on the payroll for decades, despite our repeated feedback. Yeah, our voice matters.

The VP I report to, doesn't have time for 1-on-1s. 99% of the time these get cancelled at the last minute without even having the courtesy of asking if one had anything to discuss.

Happy Thanksgiving to the handful of remaining real Americans left at MetLife. To everyone else, be sure to enjoy your paid day off, the American Dream!

Our VPs seem to all hate each other. Same for the SVPs. I thought being miserable and feeling isolated was the MetLife way.

Who needs employees when you have Co-pilot?

VPs live large at Met. Guaranteed job security and plenty of boondoggle trips each year. Stop your whining. You have it made at Met. Continue to sit comfortably while the minions are the ones overworked and laid off. No budget? Maybe give up some of the boondoggle trips.

But but you get company stock as part of your comp package. And, you get to play around with Co Pilot all day.
