Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

WFR is now the first choice because we have no competitive advantage

I don't work at Dell anymore so I cannot comment on how it is now, but the slide started long before EMC was acquired. MD had one really great idea - sell mass-customized products direct to the customer. Then someone decided that we should outsource most of manufacturing. Then someone decided that we should not sell direct but through the channel. So what is our competitive advantage anymore? None. We sell commodity products and hope that we are price competitive.

And since it is easier to cut costs than grow revenue there has always been an intense focus on lowering costs. It used to be that WFR was the last choice but now it seems that WFR is the first place they go. Unless you are JC of course.

I was scrolling through our board to check rumors (bcs anxious) and came across this post.
Putting it up for visibility.

"college grads coming into such a toxic workplace"

Dell relies on their ignorance and naivety.
Fortunately I think most 2x know Dell is not one of the cool relevant companies. That's readily obvious.

I agree that this company doesn't know how to be relevant anymore. I feel bad for the little college grads coming into such a toxic workplace and having no idea what it's like to work at a non toxic company. I bet they feel so bamboozled by their recruiters haha. Now they know to check and see if a company is doing g layoffs non stop and to NOT apply at these places in the future.

Don’t forget Lewie and Ed in that mix of clowns.

"He needs to simply take stock of the clowns he has running ISG"

or you can just cut the head off the dragon itself: M. Dell.
The rest will follow.
Really no innovation and losing market share year over year.

Our family was looking for laptops. We narrowed it down to Apple or Thinkpad. Ended up with apple products. And that's with the dell employee discount.

He needs to simply take stock of the clowns he has running ISG. Arthur Lewis? Sudhir? Travis? These people don't exactly scream innovation

And lack of innovation.

  1. Dell needs to self-replace. He's not been relevant for over 10 years now.

Change needs to come from top down.
