Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

A not on ENGINE’s workforce

If there was a vast untapped resource of Indian brilliance then India would have utilized it.

That’s a good point. I think the hit rate of finding a good candidate is less than 15% so far. And the accepted candidates are also negotiating their compensation quite high, such that the cost savings aren’t even there anymore. We are getting expensive, mediocre talent, while cutting the US talent. Makes perfect sense for this crew.

As always in this company, silence speaks louder than words. One must look at what is not being said, rather than what is being said aloud.

That no one has given any quantification as to how recruitment in India is proceeding tells me all I need to know. If recruitment was progressing anywhere near target, then they would be shouting those figures from the rooftops as a testament to their greatness. Instead, silence.

The target recruitment figures and timelines have been made reasonably public, so I can’t see it as a matter of confidentiality.

This is just a waste of money and vacation for some of the leaders of Indian background. They’ll surely enjoy it and no one else will.

Resources in India are not as cost-efficient as they were 10 years ago when other companies moved work there. Has anyone heard of a Chinese engineering center recently?
Also, India is increasingly closer to China and Russia than the US of A so is this going to be yet another geopolitically challenged operating center to accompany TCO and EMed?

It’s really sad… it will end up being as ineffective as the accounting departments being offshored. They are so difficult to work with and they rotate so quickly that every 4-6 months you have to retrain them

True - oh so true - but the gullible leaders at Chevron don't believe that - I think the ENGINE will sputter, sputter, sputter......
