They are spending $60+ million on Houston buildings to increase value of their properties , so they can eventually sell them. They are not doing it for the employees.
The only employees remaining will be a fraction of people working in new HQ after most positions have been moved overseas in the next 10 years. Only Executives, assistants and lawyers will remain on the top floors.
Try to enjoy the free snacks as that is the best part of modernization project.

No idea but I have never talked to anyone who likes the open office concept. It was trendy at tech companies last decade until they realized it was stupid.
The open space idea is to squeeze everyone from San Ramone plus anyone not fired or sent to India into the towers or maybe even just one tower (stretch goal).
