Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

My job hunt is not going well at all

I’ve been searching for a new job for months, but everything I’m getting offered is significantly below what I’m making right now. I wouldn’t mind a slight pay cut, but the offers I’m seeing are too low to make the jump. Is it just me, or is the job market really that tough right now?

I’m so sorry. Markets always turn around. I hope soon for all of us.

This is why a lot of us choose to stay with Elevance even though we all know the company is sh*t. The job Market is tough right now. No matter the degree, skill, experience, industry or company. So it is quite mind blowing when some come on this site and say “if you don’t like where you work leave!” It’s not that easy.

Wishing you well in your job search. Possibly look into a head hunter to assist?

Take a lower paying job just to get out. Remember 80% of what you make now is better than 0% when they let you go.

Get creative with searching for job titles. There are jobs out there. I left a few weeks ago. I am making 20k more than I made here. Basically the same benefits. I looked outside of insurance and didn’t care about working from home anymore. I will end up being hybrid. Not all hybrid and or work at home jobs are listed as such. I was tired of the constant fear of being laid off.

I can't even get the initial screener. Even as an internal employee for a job I'm well qualified for.

Be glad you're even getting offers. My husband got RIF'd in June and has submitted over 100 applications/resumes and has had THREE interviews and still no job. He tailors his resume based on each job and runs it through AI to ensure it fits the job descriptions. He gets a lot of rejects upfront. Elevance rejects him a lot - even though he was a stellar employee and had great reviews. It makes NO sense.

Economics nerd here. More detailed jobs statistics that aren't usually talked about on the evening news can be found on the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) website. The news usually only addresses the main jobs indicators but there's a lot more detailed information that's available to the public. Keep in mind not all survey participants turn in their data on time. BLS releases numbers but when all the data rolls in, they revise them. If you're interested, there's tons of data on employment. They measure all sorts of stuff. Here's a few examples. https://www.bls.gov/news.release/jolts.t05.htm

Agreed. The jobs report doesn’t reflect if people took lower paying jobs just to stay employed. I feel like there are some serious number fudging going on. I’ve heard of 1,000 getting laid off in my state, but jobs report doesn’t seem to reflect what is going on. Everyday on news it seems like another company is doing major layoffs.

Yes, the market is absolute garbage, but still, a 20% pay cut is better than a 100% pay cut.

I applied for about 60 jobs and was rejected right away from most. I only heard back from 3. I got offer from competitor but 20k less than what was making at EH for exact same role. I think it all depends on where you’re at career wise. If you starting out there is a chance you apply at another company and make more. For me that wasn’t the case. I’m back at EH. And before I get a bunch of hate from people there were a lot of factors that played into the decision. I have loan on 401k and didn’t want the tax hit. I’m older and don’t want to start over with no seniority built up in industry that is rife for lay offs. Everyone has to do what they feel I’d best for them and their family. I do question my decision frequently I think I’m over the idea of being fulfilled in my job. I’m just trying to make it to retirement now.
