or people who we actually need were disproportionately affected by layoffs? My team lost three people who were established employees, very experienced and competent, on whom the rest of the team relied upon to spot our mistakes, have creative solutions to problems, and support the team towards top notch outcomes. They had knowledge, experience and grace you can’t pay with money. What a shame.

TOS loves to terminate SMEs and move those that remain into areas where they have zero experience. It happens all the time. Then management complains about how long projects take.
Teams were given a $$ to reduce by and meet from senior leaders. Unfortunately some ppl in charge of making decisions just look at the salary vs the experience and impact. It will get worse before it gets better.
U.S. Bank trims the muscle. Fat is always left intact.
Those folks were likely the most senior members of the team, costliest in both salary and benefits
If you lost a SME or lead due to layoff, expect a re-org soon. Then expect work to go to offshore resources.
One of our best devs (who was also the only person on the team who had any experience with the type of project we were assigned last month) was laid off - probably because he was the highest paid dev on the team. No idea how they think we’re going to complete that project when he was supposed to lead it and teach other team members how to do the work.
My manager was laid off and replaced by someone with no experience in either our teams’ work or our business line. He has none of the connections with other stakeholders that my manager had and now key initiatives we were working on are going to be set back months if not years due to his knowledge gap. Just having to explain and document the work we do so he can learn it is creating so much extra work every week. Some days I can’t get any real work done because I’m having to spend hours explaining things to him.
Yes, my department lost SME, people that are go to people when you need a quick answer, gone.
Valuable people, respected, gone. Why???????
It's not just you. We lost folks who are instrumental to the success of some major projects and no one else has the knowledge or connections with other parts of the bank.
