I’ve finally made the call to leave, and it’s a huge relief. Alteryx has been a mess lately, overflowing with so much nepotism and garbage office politics. The place is sinking, and if you don’t wake up and start job hunting right now, it’s going to take you down with it. I’m getting out, and I know I'm making the right choice.

Engineering experienced layoffs today. It's on LinkedIn.
Man, you are REALLY behind the curve on this one. Must be in Marketing. Brand/Communications team, by chance?
And by the way, it's "plebes" not "pleebs" (sic)
You must be in Marketing to have made such a rookie mistake as that.....
Y so much shade thrown at marketing. This is wild.
The model? NG?
I think they were referring to (former) Marketing Ops leadership......
Hmmm … I was talking about a worthless FEMALE VP.

The place had many, give us a clue
I believe he was ousted for challenging them.

Let by an incompetent VP who was pushed out in the PE purge.
How so? I've observed that former VP confront leadership and question their ideas, while others remained silent.
I believe he was ousted for challenging them.
Is that why Soph quit? Makes sense now.
You would have to ask her about her reasons, directly.
But, certainly all of this marketing metrics "gaslighting" was initiated and led from the top of the marketing leadership (former CMO). Remember there was a whole team that was dedicated to this tomfoolery. Let by an incompetent VP who was pushed out in the PE purge.
People in the know who had been previously part of this team, left AYX on their own accord prior to all of this, or transferred to other roles within AYX so as not to be associated with this fudgery.
Their whole charter was to create false marketing dashboards and metrics to gaslight the rest of the organization into thinking that the CMO was kicking a$$ in his role.

Wake up, the marketing team is not the tip of the spear dummies.
Marketing always has drama.
Who is tip of the spear?
Wake up, the marketing team is not the tip of the spear dummies.
Why do they spend so much and get to have lavish off-site parties?

Because they wanted to hang onto their jobs. The smart ones didn’t agree, but did go along with what he wanted.
They saw what happened to other marketing leaders who questioned his decisions ….. they were summarily axed at the earliest possible moment.
😔😔😔😔😔
This was because the former CMO knew better than everyone else and had such a thin skin that he couldn’t tolerate voices of reason questioning his plans. 1d10+.
You just described every senior director at Marketing. Nothing has changed.
Because they wanted to hang onto their jobs. The smart ones didn’t agree, but did go along with what he wanted.
How's he doing? Did some lucrative company hire him?
but his VPs and Senior Directors didn't challenge him, ever.

You are not incorrect that the marketing leads under the ex-CMO were a weak bunch.
The worst of them was the Marketing Ops team. Their whole charter was to create false marketing dashboards and metrics to gaslight the rest of the organization into thinking that the CMO was kicking a$$ in his role.
It was all such a house of cards.
Nope nope nope. The whole TikTok and social media big time push was 100% conceived and ordered and funded by our former CMO. The VP who oversaw it is still with AYX, but in a totally different role. She just followed orders from above. This was 110% CMO-driven.
The VP you mentioned, back then, she had no other options. The Demand Generation leadership consistently supported the CMO's stupid ideas, and those who objected were silenced, being told, "It's not your call."
She's also under Kandee Kayne's thumb—the same genius who thought advertising on Reddit would bring waves of traffic.
Once again, the CMO made many poor decisions, but his VPs and Senior Directors didn't challenge him, ever. Social media for companies such as this is absolutely useless.

Many senior and even junior level people throughout the org were scratching their heads when the CMO pushed for it. Several marketing leaders who were skeptical, called it folly and questioned the ROI of the whole thing were ousted either before or at the first 2023 layoff.

Going heavy on social media, “influencers” and TikTok was the brainchild/f@rt of our illustrious former CMO.
And the people leaders who embraced that idea and executed it with pride are still here, as senior directors. Don't blame the former CMO for something the senior directors and VPs executed on their own, with blind faith and complete ignorance.
No joke. Going heavy on social media, “influencers” and TikTok was the brainchild/f@rt of our illustrious former CMO.
At one point there were like three or four people dedicated to social media, and maybe 5-6 PR people worldwide.
I never saw any numbers on the success of social media and TikTok on acquiring new customers or expanding within existing accounts. Same with McLaren.
So. Much. Waste.
As was the whole inflated digital marketing, field marketing, branding, web, events teams and so forth. Anyone remember “big Morg”? What the heck did he and his team do, Lol? Did anyone actually ever figure that out?
It was the heady days of the KP Empire. It grew fast. And it blew (up) even faster.
Hey now! Those TikTok Alteryx ads got us sooooooooooooooooooooo many customers.
They spent money advertising our tool to teenagers on TikTok? Are you kidding?
Isn't it common knowledge that you need a whole team of at least 10-20 people in the USA to kickstart digital marketing efforts, just so the numbers can be creatively adjusted and presented to the company?

''Isn't it just 2 people??'''
I can see 13 people in Digital Marketing on MS Teams. Just hover over the top leader to view the list.
That number can be 3 people and we'd get the same results.
What exactly are they doing if they have agencies?

Engineering definitely. Pretty much every promotion I've seen disregards the career levels matrix.
Best @$$ kisser gets promoted first?

What drama is in digital marketing? Isn't it just 2 people??
Hiring for multiple positions in digital marketing. IYAM - They have too many people working in digital marketing already, and they also use two or three agencies to do their work.
Some people trying to leave, others are being pushed out. The usual toxicity at marketing department.

Trust me, Databricks wouldn't touch Alteryx with a ten-foot pole. Heck, they barely even give Alteryx a nod or lifts a finger when it comes to partnering related stuff.
"It may be worth sticking around for next year when we’re bought by Databricks"
that's one of the funniest things I've read here. Databricks , a big data, cloud AI & Data platform to spend >4B on a dead windows based, server dependent etl tool that barely integrates with their platform. yah.
Engineering definitely. Pretty much every promotion I've seen disregards the career levels matrix.
Unless your manager or a core group of upper-level engineers do not like you. Then it applies to you verbatim, unless someone with influence is willing to bat for you.

Digital Marketing and Engineering.
It may be worth sticking around for next year when we’re bought by Databricks
I am in 5 loops atm.
Good on you mate! I hope you find the perfect job! And don't let the doorknob hit your a$$ on the way out !!
It's essential to recognize that trust cannot be afforded in this situation, particularly when dealing with a manager like JY. Many of her reports have already discovered how easy it is to manipulate her
Any examples of this ?!?
(KL) from Brand and Comms needs to take class on how to retain employees. She's been checked out for over a year.
Interesting...... I will say that retention has been an issue in that group, sadly. How has their leader been checked out, though?
I am in 5 loops atm. Gl to any Fu-kteryx engineer with low performance desktop only skills.
All of the Marketing ex-VPs from the previous regime were completely worthless. Most of them were in way over their heads. If the PE hadn’t happened and KP hadn’t left, all of them would have failed of their own incompetence eventually. It was appalling how poor all of KP’s VPs were.
At least now the Marketing org is much flatter and there is less bureaucracy. Those ex-VPs introduced so much red tape and bureaucracy.
Man, you are REALLY behind the curve on this one. Must be in Marketing. Brand/Communications team, by chance?
I'm also quite interested in this situation. It's come almost two years since round of redundancies took place, and at that time, the company stated that there were no further plans for such actions. Despite this assurance, they proceeded with the layoffs regardless. How can you believe them now!?
The Marketing, Brand, and Comms departments have been taking punches, with these being the areas where the most employees were let go. All VPs from these areas have vacated their positions, leaving behind senior directors who are proving to be similarly ineffective but are still receiving considerable compensation.
Digital Marketing has indeed been underperforming while overspending for an extended period of time. The person in charge of Marketing (CD) is a less than pleasant individual to work with, exhibiting appalling behavior. (KL) from Brand and Comms needs to take class on how to retain employees. She's been checked out for over a year.
What Amir or Jill should consider doing is having personal conversations with each individual within the Marketing, Brand/Comms departments. It's essential to recognize that trust cannot be afforded in this situation, particularly when dealing with a manager like JY. Many of her reports have already discovered how easy it is to manipulate her, which underscores the need for direct and honest interactions between all individuals involved.
Marketing cannot be the only department going to trash. Someone else speak up.
What took you so long to pull your head out of the sand and figure this out?
Many, if not the majority, of Alteryx employees are far, far ahead of you. We are just biding our time, working and collecting paychecks, all the while interviewing in search of the perfect next job that is a step up.
