Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

The stupidest meeting

I attended a meeting where my multi skip level manager spoke. The question came up over salary increases or the lack thereof. They mentioned that its been brought up to the powers that be that we are not competitive in pay as a bank in comparison to other large companies, is there any chance of increasing the salary. The answer was, and I quote, “there’s no interest in doing that”. Then later they said “not to focus on how much more money you could make by going elsewhere, just be happy where you are with what you have.”

That’s so easy to say when you already live in the biggest house in the neighborhood and drive the latest car and kids to go the best schools. Let me try what he said though, I’ll just tell the bank that I’d like to pay my mortgage with “company culture” instead of cash. Let’s see how well that works out.

Classic management statement: If you don’t like it, leave.
Classic employee response: Challenge accepted, here’s my notice.
Classic management reply: But why?

Years ago an MD told us to leave if we were not happy with the pay. Then had the nerve to complain when new hires leave after a 1 year.

Typical Citi fashion, manage out of fear.

It was lower on the ladder than that. I need my job, if I had the money and did not not need it, I’d gladly give you the name. Unfortunately Citi hinges on this fear to quell anyone being outspoken. If that was not the case, then this site would not even exist. Seriously, just forget it. Should’ve never posted anything and just go ahead and move on somewhere else.

OP here.
Don’t care if you had 50 years in at fortune 10 companies and don’t really care if you believe it or not. There were 78 other peeps on the same bridge who heard the same thing as I did.
Doesn’t really matter in the long run either way I guess.

Based on 30 years of experience in fortune 100 companies, I’m calling BS on the OP

Post ID: @ebc+1v6Bf9R9 At least at JP, GS, MS etc. you know there's a tradeoff and you'll get significantly more money for RTO, 1.5x, 2x, even 3x your current CitiSh!t base salary.

Now there’s the thing…..WFH is the ONLY perk that Citi has and it seems that Citi is flirting with restricting that even more. WFH is the one thing that Citi offers as a perk that is free.
If they get rid of it, then there is NO reason to stay at all, even more so if they are not going to pay a compatible salary.

I get it... but you got the answer right? the answer is no. Citi pays at or slightly below market depending on team. We are last in terms of big bank valuations. LAST.

so you leave... or stay. your choice.

I've been very much tempted to leave for JP. But at what cost? they are also much more strict about RTO

I too was told on my end to not pay attention to how much other companies are offering. What a d-mb thing to say. Ignore all the money you could be making elsewhere, just continue to work here for 20% less. Its what’s best for the company.
